  1. cbc.ca/news/canada/toronto/bil The Ford government wil send Bill 124 to the shredder, where it belonged to begin with.

  2. @AndyHat We saw the #LiveInHD broadcast here in Toronto. What a great, intense performance!

  3. Discuss: According to latest results, Brad Bradford got about 8.4 times as many votes as Giorgio Mammoliti, but not as many as half the votes given to Chloe Brown.

  4. I'm very pleased by Olivia Chow's win. To get 37% of the vote in the circumstances is, I think, pretty impressive. Again, the first thing is to push back against any claim that the new Mayor has no "mandate". When Bailao was leading earlier with 36% of the vote, I was thinking that, if she won, none of the right wing would say she had no mandate. So they can't say that now just because they don't like the result - but they will.

  5. Star City Columnist Esward Keenan pointedly notes that Star's endorsement of Bailão was a "decision in which reporters and columnists like yours truly are not involved."

  6. Challenged on his endorsement of Ana Bailão, John Tory responds "What, me worry?"

Meanwhile, Doug Ford goes 100% fear mongering in obliging Star puff piece that never points out he said just yetserday he is “staying out of the race”. Of course, blatant hypocrisy from right-wing politicians is hardly news, is it?

  7. Toronto Star editorial board surprises nobody. At least, they're honest enough to admit their choice is motivated by partisanship: "Chow, whose housing policy is disappointingly vague, has a long history as a New Democrat..."

I'd also point out that the board has put its cliché-o-matic into overdrive: "Toronto’s next mayor must be honest about the problems, lead with bold ideas, and forge consensus to achieve results."

  8. thestar.com/politics/provincia #OSSTF members of course have the right to decide if they want to accept this, but in my opinion they'd do well to reject it. I'd be very interested to hear the bargaining leadership's rationale for this. To start a mean and totally fictitious rumour, what if if turns out Ford offered them part of the #Greenbelt? #OnPoli #OnLabour

  9. Gotta love the bias from whoever scribbles Toronto Star headlines: "Billions at stake as Ontario takes public sector workers to Court of Appeal". How about "Constitutional rights at stake..."? or "Court of Appeal to rule if Ontario taxpayers' reps guilty of wage theft"?

Very good piece on the #Hunka affair by Nora Loreto. #CanPoli

Also, a plug. Nora Loreto does great journalism, but her perspectives are not something our mainstream media likes to feature. Her book, "Spin Doctors
How Media and Politicians Misdiagnosed the COVID-19 Pandemic" is one of the best and most insghtful pieces I've read about our COVID experience. She could use support: so I encourage you to vist her substack page and subscribe!

The unspeakable endorses the implausible. No doubt, the right in Toronto has suffered since John Tory ceased to be there to provide a veneer of plausible (albeit philandering) gentility.

Gil Penalosa deserves thanks for making sure that there was a progressive voice in the last municipal election. I think he's wise not to step forward this time. #Toronto #MayorElection

  13. @thetyee God, the haircuts...they always have such scuplted and carefully dyed hair. One wonders if it's so tight that the roots have pulled their brain from any connexion to the nervous system. And the blank, serial-killer stare: you could be next. Plus the slightly blurred American flag to tell you that, where most woulg see a vacuum, there's a surfeit of patriotic exceptionalism... #PurpleProse

Guess Furey wanted to grab a headline, CP24 was happy to oblige.

But I don't understand. I see all these billboards Metrolinx has bought to tell us (who fund it) how wonderful it is, and to reassure that we will have exciting new transit service any day now - maybe as soon as a few years or when the Leafs win the Stanley Cup. Just don't hold your breath
