  1. I see the #Solid project is going great (sarcasm). I picked a host from solidproject.org/get_a_pod that hasn't pivoted to AI (cough #Inrupt cough), so solid.redpencil.io/. I created an account and tried to sign in from both dokie.li/ and solid.redpencil.io/ itself, and got a completely inscrutable and probably insecure confirmation screen:

Also, parking shouldn't be free, especially when #Trimet hasn't made the buses free. #pdx

  4. Just made the best Werewolf play ever: I was a werewolf, and the villagers had to kill one of us this round or else we'd outnumber them. I claimed to be the seer, managed to call out the right number of people, but accused the actual seer of being a simple villager. Somehow the village didn't realize that there would be no reason for a person I said was a villager to lie and say they were the seer, and they killed the actual seer instead of me. Win!

  14. Welcome to Seoul airport, on my way to .

  15. We need more experiments in what a #SoftwareCommons might look like. It's clear that non-copyleft #OpenSource isn't it, because it ignores the principles that Ostrom found in long-lived natural resource #commons (patternsofcommoning.org/uncate). We shouldn't expect all of them to carry over, but we at least need enforceable rules to ensure that people profiting from a piece of software have to contribute to supporting it.

We should not expect these experiments to succeed quickly. It will take time to shift the Overton window.

  20. @chrisneedham In (at least) the second mode, we'd need at least one governance body (kinda like a certificate authority, maybe) to help everyone decide whether to trust the signing keys.

  21. @lauren @dangoodin #AWU has won NLRB elections for some bargaining units, but we still have a long way to go to cover all ~200k employees and TVCs. We even got Google recognized as a joint employer for a couple of the units, although Google's likely to drag that through as many courts as they can: theverge.com/2024/1/4/24026025
