As we move into May, we leave the Sonic vocal tracks behind. A part of me is a little sad, but I am sure Sonic will return to an Ishambard #VGMWednesday in due time.
Today's game is one I have vague memories of, mostly of seeing it at a friend's. He had a chipped PS1, and had a bunch of pretty obscure PS1 games. Ones that stuck in my mind were Legend of Legaia and Soul Blade.
Soul Blade being the first game in the Soul Calibur series. Called Soul Edge in Japan but Soul Blade internationally due to avoid on-going shenanigans relating EDGE games and their attempts to trademark anything with edge in the name. At least, that is my understanding...
What i wasn't aware of though, was that Soul Edge had a vocal opening theme 『The Edge of Soul』

There is something about this opening that I love, perhaps it is the opening narration.

We've hit the end of April, and this will be the last Sonic vocal track for 2026.
I think the comment that Solid_CC put on this particular song is particularly true of pretty much ANY Sonic game.
Sonic and the Dark Knight is the Sonic game I wish I gave a chance. At the time I probably gave it a miss because the Sonic games at the time were... I didn't have much interest. Generations was still 2 years off.
Despite not playing the game, I listened to the theme song Knight of the Wind. Cracking song, absolute 10/10.
So i wanted to check out other songs in the soundtrack and honestly, I think 『With Me』is almost too good for a Sonic game.I must get around to this game at some point!
