2011: "medieval" relative to 2024? Perhaps so, in online terms. In any case the internet-ancient ca. 2011 #ClimateMyth centered on the "Medieval Warming Period" (MWP) as a dodge to exculpate us from our accidentally warming our planet continues to resonate. So our #ClimateMythDebunking access statistics indicate, as a proxy measure.
We've been doing an overall update of our #ClimateBunk treatments. Now up: the #MWP, with an at-a-glance treatment.
Opinions welcome!

@jgkoomey & Ian Monroe's new book "Solving Climate Change: A guide for learners and leaders" is freely available until May 21, thanks to the generosity of the authors and the Institute of Physics.
Get your copy at the link. And perhaps there's somebody you know who could benefit from a printed version, as a meaningful gift?
(Skeptical Science is unaffiliated with the authors but we're strong enthusiasts of evidence-based problem-solving.)

While the half-life of all climate bunk tends to be long, some #misinformation has truly low λ. Still at #13 in our 7-day rolling average of daily reads after 13 years, our rebuttal "What do the 'Climategate' hacked CRU emails tell us?" is freshly revised with an added "at a glance" section.
We'd love to hear what you think about our revision's on-ramp for helping to neutralize this still-glowing stitch-up, via the conveniently embedded feedback form

Our #ClimateMythDebunking access statistics are a proxy for popularity of particular items of #ClimateBunk.
Per these stats the "MWP" or "Medieval Warming Period" has done a steady fair-to-middling trade in #ClimateConfusion, for many years.
Here's a new 160-word treatment, created in collaboration with #GigaFact and designed for quick-and-easy use by understaffed newsrooms.
This one's quite simple, a bit easier to fit into few words-- yet the myth still has legs.

Our edition #48 of the Skeptical Science weekly global warming news roundup celebrates 20 years of #RealClimate.
Where it all began, for a lot of us. 🙂
Celebrating 20 years of patiently explaining the obvious is a bit twisted, but credit where credit is due.
Still #ClimateDebunking, after all these years.

Our last blast for 2024 was this collaborative output with the #SabinCenterForClimateChangeLaw, a #RenewableEnergyMythDebunking.
One of 33 compact but solidly sourced treatments authored by Sabin and adapted for easy individual access via Skeptical Science.
This particular set of currently accurate facts is highly vulnerable to changing circumstances. Will it need revising over the next few years? We shall see.

Skeptical of going with the flow of integrating proprietary generative AI large language models such as #ChatGPT or #BardbyGoogle into education. We've been here before - a business model that disempowers humans, making us feel it's pointless to learn - and by implication, shape - foundational knowledge. But humans can't do anything integrated - e.g. form sophisticated questions - without thoroughly grasping foundational knowledge. The business model is sawing away the branch it's perched on

Surprisingly positive findings:
"Solar panels generate energy even in cloudy or cold conditions (Ramli et al. 2016). Although cloudy weather may reduce power generation by as much as 45%, substantial energy can still be generated during those conditions (Ramli et al. 2016 and Makrides et al. 2012)."
From our collaboratively adapted collection of #ClimateSolutionsMyths #debunkings, authored at the #SabinCenterForClimateChangeLaw.
