  1. Hongyu Zhou, @rafguns and Tim Engels have preprinted not only the initial version but also all subsequent versions of their paper 'Towards indicating interdisciplinarity: Characterizing interdisciplinary knowledge flow' doi.org/10.48550/arXiv.2207.10.

This is a great example of how preprinting should be done! It has allowed me to publish open reviews of all three versions of the paper. I just published a review of the 3rd (much improved!) version ludowaltman.pubpub.org/pub/rev.

  2. Open research information is a key priority in the Knowledge Agenda of @cwts leidenmadtrics.nl/articles/the.

As part of our new strategic plan, we're launching the course 'Scientometrics Using Open Data', organized jointly with the Curtin Open Knowledge Initiative #COKI. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first professional course worldwide on open research information.

  4. @INORMS_REG @cwts @lizziegadd

Many thanks to the #MoreThanOurRank team for the important work they're doing, and also for having me as a speaker in last Monday's community call.

The slides of my talk are available in Zenodo doi.org/10.5281/zenodo.7838904.

A recording is available at inorms.net/more-than-our-rank-.

Let's all give our support to #MoreThanOurRank!

  5. The @INORMS_REG #MoreThanOurRank initiative provides an opportunity for academic institutions to highlight the many and various ways they serve the world that are not reflected in their ranking position.

I look forward to Monday's #MoreThanOurRank community call, in which I will explain why @cwts supports this important initiative.

  6. Why does @cwts support the @INORMS_REG #MoreThanOurRank initiative?

I will talk about this in the INORMS More Than Our Rank community call on April 17.

In the same event Leslie Chan will give a keynote about 'The hidden costs of rankings'. Highly recommended!

  7. #SIRIS Academic is now fully owned by a not-for-profit foundation, the #SIRIS foundation sirisacademic.com/blog/siris-a.

Congrats to the #SIRIS colleagues for taking this bold step!

  8. #Elsevier keeps increasing the APC of #JournalOfInformetrics. It now equals USD 3960.

At @QSS_ISSI we also needed to increase our APC. It has increased to USD 750 for #ISSI members and USD 1200 for non-members.

Ridiculous to see that #JOI charges an APC that is more than five times as high as the APC of #QSS for #ISSI members. Moreover, despite the much lower APC, @mitpress offers a better service level than #Elsevier.

Paying the #JOI APC is a complete waste of money!

  9. The preprint revolution - Implications for bibliographic databases upstream.force11.org/the-prepr

Bibliographic databases are increasingly recognizing importance of preprints. How do they index preprints?

@neesjanvaneck and I offer 6 recommendations for preprint indexing. We show to what extent #Dimensions, #EuropePMC, #Lens, #Scopus and #WebOfScience meet these recommendations.

Improving preprint indexing requires joint action by many players in scholarly publishing infrastructure ecosystem!

    @cwts

  10. @Luke_Drury @cwts @neesjanvaneck Thanks Luke, I must admit I'm not familiar with the ADS system, but this sounds great.

There are also various multidisciplinary databases that have been indexing preprints already for some time, including #Dimensions, #Lens and #EuropePMC. We'll discuss this in the blog post that we're working on.

  11. @cwts I must say I'm a bit confused by the approach taken by the #ISSI2023 colleagues.

We're all talking about open science these days, which means research results should be shared as early and as openly as possible, so that they can be debated publicly and can benefit from public feedback.

Asking authors to "refrain from depositing the conference materials to a preprint service until after the conference" discourages authors to adopt open science practices!

  12. Interesting to see different views within the scientometric community on how to organize publication and peer review of conference papers.

The colleagues organizing the #ISSI2023 conference explicitly discourage preprinting of papers submitted to the conference cns-iu.github.io/workshops/202. I think discouraging preprinting is quite problematic.

At @cwts we will soon announce the model we use for the #STI_ENID2023 conference. Our model will essentially be the opposite of the model used by #ISSI2023!

  13. @mbirna #Qeios is definitely a legitimate platform. They offer an innovative way to facilitate preprinting and open peer review. #Qeios is also a supporter of the @ASAPbio #PublishYourReviews initiative asapbio.org/publishyourreviews.

I fully agree we need more public scholarly debate instead of traditional closed peer review focused on accept/reject decisions. As reviewer I'm increasingly investing my time in new open forms of peer review.
