  3. Powerful statement by #CoimbraGroup coimbra-group.eu/coimbra-group

    Coimbra Group announces its "strong support for movement towards open research information – defined as information relating to conduct and communication of research, currently unfolding in higher education sector. That includes more open and transparent University rankings."

    Coimbra Group also announces "its support of initiative #MoreThanOurRank developed in response to ... problematic features ... of global university rankings."

    Rector Magnificus Henk Kummeling, #UtrechtUniversity: "Together with many other #CoimbraGroup members we're part of international movement to resist dominance of current rankings, e.g. through #MoreThanOurRank and @coarassessment. Other Dutch universities are also debating participation in rankings, jointly they've published statement on effects of ranking universities and how to deal with these effects."

  5. The University of Turku committed to the #MoreThanOurRank initiative as the first Finnish university utu.fi/en/news/news/university.

    "The University of Turku is a pioneer in developing responsible assessment of research and we also want to commit to more diverse acknowledging and recognition of institutional success than is indicated by various university rankings. Commitment to More Than Our Rank initiative is also in line with what @EUA wants to promote, says Rector Jukka Kola."

    2. Join @coarassessment and implement commitment 4 (avoid use of rankings in research assessment) coara.eu/agreement/the-commitm.

    3. Make data provided to university rankings openly available.

    4. Request publishers to make all metadata of publications openly available through @crossref. @MsPhelps

    We organise two calls, March 24 and April 17, 2023, in different time zones to ensure opportunities for community participation worldwide.

    #MTOR is a response to some of the problematic effects of the global university rankings. By participating academic institutions show commitment to responsible assessment and acknowledge a broad and diverse definition of institutional success.
