من شدّة المشاعر التي اجتاحتها احمرّ وجه ضحى، وبلّت عيناها ولمعتا
في الزاوية البعيدة من الدكان كانت معلّقتان سلسلتان ذهبيتان بقلادتين من الذهب الخالص، يبدو بوضوح أنهما صُنعتا كزوجٍ واحد
على إحدى السلسلتين كانت هناك قلادة على شكل لفافةٍ نصف مفتوحة
أما القلادة الأخرى فكانت على هيئة محبرةٍ فيها رشتان متروكتان، فبدت القلادة وكأنها طائرٌ بجناحين مفرودين
مسحت ضحى الحليَّ بيديها الناعمتين
كانت أصابعها تنزلق برفقٍ إلى أعلى وأسفل على السلسلتين، تتسلل بينهما إلى الداخل ثم تخرج إلى الخارج من جديد

Suddenly, as if carried by a gust of wind, Duha glided toward an unremarkable little shop.
Overwhelmed by emotion, Duha’s face flushed, and her eyes grew moist and began to shine.
In the far corner of the shop hung two gold chains with pendants of pure gold, evidently made as a matching pair.
One chain bore a pendant shaped like a half-unrolled scroll.
The other pendant was in the form of an inkwell with a pair of quills left inside it, making the charm look like a bird with outspread wings.
Duha caressed the jewelry with her gentle hands.
Her fingers slid softly up and down the chains, slipping between them inward and then emerging outward again.
