It was early October and as I was washing a few dishes, I looked out the window and all of my wife's goats were standing stock still, staring into the woods. They all seemed to be looking at the same spot and weren't moving at all. After watching them for a few minutes, they finally broke ranks and went back to munching greens.
I thought, "The goats know something's out there that I can't see."
That thought became the novella The Goats Knew. A horror story I attempted to write for Halloween, but missed by about 10 months.
