My #buddhist take on Krugman's think piece on "rural rage" is that it treats the human psyche like another economic problem to solve. But the truth more #nuanced.
The human mind is designed to survive, not to be happy. Rage and angst are built into the human mind as surely as eyesight and navel-gazing.
Once basic needs are met, the path to equanimity lies in wisdom, which cannot be taught directly, only indirectly through the practice of compassion.

When a self-described "conservative" (reactionary) claims the US is a "christian" nation, remember this is a falsehood, while the #truth, limping behind, is more #nuanced.
The US was founded by Europeans fleeing religious persecution. They went on to persecute other religions and any form of dissent. This is why religious liberty and separation of church and state, were enshrined in the US constitution.

FWIW Plato described five types of #republic, one of which is #democracy, none of which is "constitutional".
Plato's five regimes are: aristocracy, oligarchy, timocracy, democracy and tyranny.
