I'm thinking either the #Garmin #VenuSq2 or #VenuSq2Music. 😁The solar rechargeable one would be nice but I'm not an athlete so I'm not splurging on those expensive models. My needs are simple. Don't wanna spend too much.
Although I wonder if I should get cheaper brands like #Amazfit or #Mi. I think might regret it, and that would be a real waste. 🤔 I was happy with my old Garmin and it served me well .👍 So I'm inclined to stick to the brand.
Any recommendations?

Took a full rest day on Thursday because I needed it. Took a full rest day yesterday because my toddler only let me get about 2-3 hours of sleep. I usually get around 5-6.
I actually had to resort to a small amount of caffeine around noon yesterday. So much needed to get done and I was struggling to be functional. Haven't had caffeine in probably 2 or so years.
Today, kicking it off with a 2 hour bike ride. I'm almost at the hallway point right now.

Fitness update:
Since I've been doing these periodically over the last few years, figured I'd drop another upon my return.
I haven't lost much weight in a few months. I got a major case of diet fatigue after cutting got 2.5 years. Decided to take a break and focus on fueling my preparation for a handful of 5ks. I ended up putting on about 9 lbs but my body composition continued going in the right direction. Basically, all that weight was food in the belly and muscle. No significant fat gains. Thankfully I was taking measurements the whole time else that could have messed me up mentally. I restarted cutting and am already down 5 of those 9lbs.
For races, I knocked it out of the park. My goal 5k race for the year I ran in 22:36. Down from 26:17 at the start of the year.
I also signed on with a triathlon coach and have begun triathlon training. Goals for next year are to complete an Olympic distance triathlon and break 20 minutes in the 5k.

Really happy with this race from yesterday evening. About a minute faster than my last 5k race earlier this year. I placed 32nd out of over 400 entrants. 11th in age group. I'm getting pretty close to my times from 15 years ago when last I was fit and healthy. Also, this was a certified course with chip timing. So out of all the races I've done this year and last, this is the first with genuine 5k results.
This race was part of the Med City Marathon series. 2 day event. Last night was the 5k and expo. This morning is the marathon, 20 miler and half marathon along with the relay events. A LOT of people I've met at the local run club are racing across the various events so I'm looking forward to following along and seeing all their results on RaceRecord Strava in the coming hours.

Yesterday I ran my 2nd 5k event of the year and shaved off over another minute on my time. The course was a bit short at 2.96 miles according to my Garmin and several other runners with their watches confirmed, so I had to estimate my actual 5k time which I estimate would have been about 25:04. Down from 26:17 a month ago.
8:04 average pace, down from 8:30 last month.
2nd in my age group and 10th overall. 68 total entrants.
Tried out a new pizza place after the race to celebrate the good results. Steve's Pizza in Austin Minnesota. One of the better pizza places I've found in the region. Will be returning there in the future for sure.
This concluded an 8 week duathlon training plan I did through TrainingPeaks to get back into racing. I'm taking a week off from structured training to do whatever running and cycling I want, then the following week starts a 20 week duathlon plan with a September 5k race in mind.

I used to be able to recommend Garmin watches for fitness focused individuals unconditionally. After today's announcement I have reservations for the first time.
I've read nothing but outage and a feeling of betrayal from the Garmin community. I hope they come to realize how bad of an idea this is and back track before they do irreparable harm, if they haven't already.

Despite having a minor cold, I did actually manage to get one major task done over the weekend.
We've been slowly building out an indoor greenhouse. We added a raised bed yesterday and installed some hooks in the ceiling to mount grow lights. This bed will have 2 cherry tomato plants. We plan to add another raised bed right next to it later this month.
This is in addition to our aeroponics tower that's got Bibb lettuce, salad bowl lettuce, basil, arugula, onion and chives currently growing.
Our end goal is to have this entire room basically a leafy forest.
And yes, that's a 3d printed leafeon planter sitting in the dirt holding a succulent.

I'm so tired and hungry (and sore). Gah, I hate days like this. I'm going to end up going over my calorie target by about 300-400 today I think. I'll still be in a solid 400+ deficit, but days like today make me want to go back to maintenance again.
In other news, I just purchased an 8 week structured #duathlon training plan on #TrainingPeaks. Lined it up with a 5k I am doing in April so it doesn't start until next weekend. I don't plan to do any duathlon or #triathlon events this year, but I want to start getting back into racing 5k’s and I really enjoy riding my bike on the trainer and want to improve there as well. So I figured a duathlon plan was appropriate.
Still going to continue doing my 5-6 days of strength training as programmed by #Fitbod. I know this sounds like a lot, but the volume is largely what I am already doing. Its just that the #running and #cycling will be a bit more structured and intentional now, and there will be more high intensity work as prescribed by the training plan.

Did the trifecta today. Strength in the morning, then a 15 minute recovery run and a 15 minute recovery ride during lunch. Also going to try and sneak in a short yoga session tonight after the kid goes to bed.

Productive day so far. Woke up at 5am. Toddler also woke up at 5 so she joined me for my strength workout. Then after she went down for her afternoon nap I got a 30 minute treadmill run in.
After not being able to run consistently for so long, I'm so psyched to have a treadmill. At this point, if I can't do the workout on my basement fitness center, the chances of me being about to do it consistently are bordering on impossible. Building that basement fitness center almost 2 years ago now was the single best home improvement project I've done. Well that and running Ethernet to every room of the house and building a fence in our backyard so I don't have to step outside to let the dogs out in the freezing cold winter months. Ok, so they are all really good valuable projects I guess.

First run on the new treadmill calls for new shoes. I've got several identical pairs of shoes in my closet. When I find a model that works, I buy several extra pairs of them when the new model comes out and the old one goes on sale. This is the ASICS Noosa Tri 14. Unintended, but this particular color was matches my socks perfectly.

Any recommendations on a reasonably priced treadmill under $1000 that doesn't require subscriptions? Ideally physical button controls as opposed to a touch screen and has a shelf for an iPad to sit on (thus likely blocking any built in display and it's controls).

Diving functionality down to 40 meters. This is the same as the Apple Watch Ultra . But not as deep as the dedicated diving devices from Garmin which go to like 200 meters I think. 40 meters accounts for the vast majority of all recreational diving though.
Price increases. Starting from $1k. About a $200 increase in launch price from the previous generation.
Definitely a lot of nice upgrades, but no blood glucose or other hardware sensors this time around.

New more refined UI across the entire watch. More aesthetic and menus are laid out a lot more logically. Apparently all their watches going forward will have a more unified UI. Unclear if any of their previous watches will be updated to use it.
Garmin Connect is launching new training programs for strength training and other sports. Right now, training programs are limited to running and cycling. They are advertising it as a fenix 8 feature, but I don’t see why that wouldn’t be available for other watches since it’s seems to be a Garmin Connect feature as opposed to a hardware feature. But Garmin does like to arbitrarily hold features back to drive hardware upgrades.

New Garmin Fenix 8 watches just dropped. So here’s the highlights from what I can tell.
3 sizes. 43, 47, 51mm. AMOLED displays default across the line up. MIPS/Solar display options everywhere except the 43mm option. Battery life is at least as good but often improved across the board at every variation compared to the fenix 7 pro/Epix pro watches.
Microphone and speaker. Allows access to your phones Siri or google assistant. Also has on device voice controls to control aspects of the watch like starting timers, activities, enabling/disabling focus modes (sleep), etc. Can make phone calls from watch using mic and speaker. Still requires connected phone. No LTE on the watch itself.

Bench press remax today. 10 lb increase up to 195 now!
This was my max about 7 years ago before I stopped lifting regularly. Which means any gains from here on out are breaking new ground!
Last year, when I started lifting again I maxed at 145. So 50lbs of newbie gains during this 1st year.

Quick #fitness update.
Down 63 lbs as of this morning. Currently sitting at 215 lbs down from 278. Still #strengthtraining 4-6 times a week. But I had a knee injury about 2 months ago which has preventing me from #running. So I’ve been substituting #cycling for my runs these last 2 months and I’ve been limiting my leg day strength work a bit.
But, the knee is doing really well. I’ve been scaling my leg day workouts these last 2 weeks and plan to try a run later this week as well.

I’m definitely feeling worlds better, but still got a ways to go. Getting stronger and faster.
