  1. Oof... looks like I'm going to need to rebuild the heatsink anchoring hardware on this EdgeSwitch that got dropped, because the impact with the floor not only bent the rack ear, it shattered the plastic retaining posts Ubiquiti used

At least I have suitable thermal pads to replace the one torn up on the SOC. I'm using proper hardware for this (some screws of suitable length plus nuts and lock washers)

  2. PSA: Dear eBay sellers: Stop putting computer hardware on carpet. Also, clean out your nicotine gunk from the damn heatsink. Last, these things must be in ESD bags. Not paper towels or bubble wrap.

Such an easy pass when I see this crap. If this is your listing - LOL @ you. #psa #ebay

  3. Trying Clik valves. Kit came with tiny tool to unscrew existing presta & tighten new clik, exchanged without losing much air. The Schwalbe clik pump adaptor is plastic, which is fine for a hand pump. The little battery pump uses a metal adaptor, probably since they can get hot. But I figure I'll just fill a bit, check temp, make sure plastic isn't melting. Which worked fine topping off first tire. On second tire the pump kept stopping, making me think it's overheating. I'd guess the metal adaptor is part of the device's heatsink and plastic ain't cutting it (second photo shows closeup, Schwalbe is also much longer).
Let everything sit a while and pump returned to normal, but probably not something you want to depend on. I have wolf tooth aluminum adaptor on order, just hasn't come in yet.

  4. This adventure will continue tomorrow. At least for now, I got the most recent backups saved thanks to Proxmox’s backup solution.

  5. Well, it looks like mysql's persistent data should be on `/var/lib/mysql` and not `/usr/local/mysql`. Oops (with a *healthy* dose of PEBKAC).

I do have full OS backups of the worker node so now I wonder if I can engineer some kind of recovery to get that data back out.

It's going to exist in the container as it was running at the time of the backup. Maybe I can extract it that way?

  6. I’ve also been meaning to setup and test a backup/restore process, so this is a good reminder I don’t have that now for my self hosted stuff.

I probably can piece things together now, but that’s not the same as having a tested backup process.

  7. Think I’m going to learn more about Kubernetes tonight. And not quite in a fun way: one of my containers, and only one so far, doesn’t seem like it retained its data after I took the rack down for maintenance yesterday.

All the systems were cleanly shutdown so the data should be intact, I just need to find it.

The new PVs are there, but empty, so I might need to see what PVs they *should* be pointing to.

  8. Beanie season is here! Just chilly enough for a vest of some kind and a hat.

  9. Guess I’m not sleeping with the windows open tonight. Gonna be chilly!
