  1. Wednesday Weekly Blogging Challenge: A Profession from a Book/Movie/TV Show I’d Like to Try

Hi everyone! I hope you’re all well. Today is Wednesday, and it’s time for another post in the Wednesday Weekly Blogging Challenge hosted by Long and Short Reviews. If you’d like to participate, you can find the topics for 2026 here. If you’d like to read other people’s responses to this week’s topic, you can find them here.

A Profession from a Book/Movie/TV Show I’d Like to Try

    There are so many.

Being a journalist in Gotham City seems very lucrative. There’s always a story. There always seem to be crime bosses and psychopaths escaping from Arkham Asylum—you’d never be short on material to write about. Not to mention The Joker, who could probably keep Gotham’s newspapers in print single-handedly.

Heck, for that matter, being a crime-fighting superhero seems like a nice way to live. Well, if you’re Bruce Wayne with billions of dollars. I guess the others don’t get paid. I can’t imagine Superman or Wonder Woman sending an invoice for their time and service.

I’ve always wanted to be a scientist who gets to go on the away missions on Star Trek (not a Redshirt!). The scientists seem to have all the fun, making discoveries and inventing things. It seems like it’d be a great life.

A paranormal investigator like those in Hell House or The Haunting of Hill House. Although I don’t believe in the paranormal, I do have a strange fascination with the investigation side of things. Odd things have been picked up on voice recorders and even video cameras that appear unexplainable. I don’t ever think ‘paranormal’, but I do think maybe it’s‘something’.

How can we be on week 40?! What will you all say, I wonder?

As ever, thanks for stopping by. It means the world!

    Until next time,

    George

  2. Octobers of Old

Hi everyone! I hope you’re all well. I’m sharing another poem with you today, and I hope you enjoy it.

    Octobers of Old

I remember the chill of Octobers of old
When nights crept early and deep,
    When turnip lanterns guttered low,
    And shadows woke from sleep.

    We carved with spoons excitedly,
    Our fingers cold and sore,
The scent of earth and candle smoke
    Hung ghostlike at the door.

We wore tall hats of cardboard cones,
    Bin-liner cloaks that trailed,
And chased each other through the dark
While our paper masks soon failed.

The streets shone dark with autumn rain,
The air was sharp and still,
    And every rustle, every sound,
    Could spark a sudden thrill.

The dark grows still, the embers fade,
    The laughter long since flown,
    But every chill October night
Still feels a bit like home.

Thank you, as ever, for stopping by!

    Until next time,

    George
