  1. hubster put on a shirt cos he's going #OutThere

the shirt has usian flag imagery. it's a cool design but the flag imagery throws the whole aesthetic off for me. and i was explaining to him why it just is a massive squick for me.

see ... i am jamaican. where i come from 'respecting the flag' looks like not wearing it, not draping it over the car or couch, not using on seat covers or shoes, not fetishising it. it's a symbol of pain, survival, and triumph for us. we treat it with reverence. flags come down at sunset in jamaica. and if they don't, people can report you and theoretically you can be punished.

if you've ever seen jamaican themed stuff from jamaica, most of our flag themed items hint at the colours. there is never a lot of outright flags anywhere. there's a reason for that.

so ... the way usians drape themselves and their possessions in actual replicas of the flag is just ... icky to me. and the visceral offence to the stomping and burning of said flag is just cognitively confusing to me. because ... only a cult would make it ok to worship a thing and offensive to criticise and protest it.

  2. oh! it works now!

took this photo today on my way back home. autumn is my favourite season. and coming from a place where there is only one season (maybe two? hot and hotter?), views like this always make me want to cry at its beauty. #AutumnColours #ChangingLeaves #Autumn #FallColours
