It was all chord-based, fifties style jazz (with just a bit of "outside" playing). This stuff often sounds stale and routine, but these young musicians somehow managed to make it sound so fresh and exciting. Great arrangements by Badaroux and Ben Dousteyssier, an ace rhythm section, and every soloist at the top of their game.
Another group with many of the same musicians is playing again tonight. Expect originals this time.
