I say, every NPC deserves at least two sentences. No more generic bartenders or barmaids ...

All it takes is two sentences.

Now PCs. they deserve a back story and the back story should continue to grow with play.

Turns out my character, Eric the Cleric was known as Eric the Devout when younger and traveling with a different party that became kind of famous or at least started an adventurer's school

The DM dropped that on me so now I can fill in the details.

Interesting, but I'm not sure that the implied parallel between Russia and Israel really holds.

The appalling war in Ukraine is entirely the fault of the Putin regime. It is still the case, however, that individual Russians should not be held responsible for the outrages committed by their government.

Everybody should be able to agree that what is going on in Gaza is a humanitarian disaster. The responsibility for this disaster is shared.

Certainly, Israeli forces have sometimes acted disproportionately, not taken care to ensure that noncombatants are not harmed, and have taken part in a war that has been prolonged unjustly by an Israeli prime minister who will do anything to ensure his own political survival.

On the other hand, this latest war was triggered by the Nazi style October 7th massacre carried out by Hamas, and many of the civilian casualties in Gaza are a consequence of Hamas using apartment buildings, hospitals, and schools as bases for attacks on Israelis.

Israel has the right to defend itself against such attacks, whereas Russia has no right to invade other countries.

In addition, nobody is calling for Russia to be wiped off the map and nobody is carrying out armed attacks on Russian Orthodox churches outside Russia.

Israel has been subject to decades of attacks, both in the form of armed aggression and by means of a longstanding campaign against its legitimacy as a state. In this connection, it's worth noting that Gal Gadot was being vilified on account of her Israeli nationality before the current Gaza conflict started.

As far as I know, Gadot has not spoken in favour of the current Israeli government. She has said that she would like to see peace and an end to conflict.

What did anger some people were the remarks she made in an address to the ADL:

    adl.org/resources/news/gal-gad

Gadot expresses what ought to be seen as an unobjectionable pride in being Jewish and in being Israeli. That pride alone, of course, is a red flag for the world's sizeable community of antisemites.

She also delivers a reminder that many who are currently heaping blame on Israel as the sole wrongdoer in this conflict will not welcome - that a number of Israel haters actually came out to celebrate the October 7th massacres.

I believe that the current policies of the Israeli government are both morally wrong and politically imprudent. But I don't think anybody needs to apologize for being Israeli.

    A plugin is exactly that.

You don't need to install it but there's nothing stopping you from developing your own.

And in the spirit of open source Joplin devs are allowing it. There's nothing wrong with that.

Unless I'm missing something that you might like to express further?..

Here in Germany around 17 million people (out of 80 million) struggle to understand complex texts for various reasons. That's why we have one of our main news programs in simple language now, to help them participate.

If an "AI" can help people digest texts on the fly, like while they are browsing the internet, I actually welcome that technology.

#Mastodon has an AI translate feature. Why not add a translate to simple language feature?
