    The KMT voted to pass a bill for a referendum on the use of corporal punishment (caning) to be held alongside Taiwan's local elections in November

    The referendum is very unlikely to pass but plenty will be written in the international media about this over the next few months. It will absolutely trash Taiwan's reputation as a country committed to human rights. It makes a mockery of Taiwan's democracy

    國立中央大學應用地質研究所李錫堤教授指出，核三廠現行耐震能力尚未真正達到1.384g。根據最新地震危害評估，其地震反應譜已全面超過原設計標準0.4g，甚至可能遭遇超過1.3g的加速度，但相關耐震評估與補強工程尚未完成，尤其是反應爐本體、高頻設備與用過燃料池的安全性仍有重大疑慮。

    因此，單純以「理論耐震值」來宣稱核電廠絕對安全，忽視地震不可預測性與複合災害下的避難與救援限制，不僅誤導大眾，更可能在真正的災難中付出難以承受的代價。
