[🌱🏛] #haikaveh #アルカヴェ
"Sometimes I wonder if I matter in your life,"
Kaveh almost chokes on his wine.
"Are you drunk?"
"Hmm," Alhaitham shrugs, lowering his gaze at the wine in his own glass, "I drank a few..."
"Archons, you /are/ drunk,"
"And you are avoiding my question."
"..."
It's the first time Kaveh sees Alhaitham like this. He knows that Alhaitham is one of the few who has impeccable amount of self-control when he drinks, though it's not like Alhaitham doesn't drink at all. He's seen him getting real tipsy to the point he became rather touchy toward him, and that was how Kaveh knew that Alhaitham can get clingy when he's drunk.
But he didn't expect Alhaitham to ask... /that/.
Out of the blue.
Unprompted.
"Alright," Kaveh stands up from his seat, looking at Cyno and Tighnyari apologetically, "Sorry, guys, I think we have to cut the night short before things get a little too much out of hand,"
Tighnyari gives him an understanding smile, "Oh, it's alright. We can always come here again."
"That's right," Cyno adds, watching Kaveh taking Alhaitham's arm around his shoulders to help him get up, "Do you need help?"
"It's fine, I can take him home myself," Kaveh grimaces.
Then, a little too quickly, and a little too loudly, he adds, "To his house! Because we live in two separate houses! Haha!"
Tighnyari and Cyno look at each other for a moment, noticing that not even a single soul is looking at them /until/ Kaveh said that.
"Alright, let's get you home,"
Alhaitham looks like he's going to say something, but he stops when Kaveh pulls him up. It makes Kaveh almost flinches in surprise when Alhaitham presses himself against him, and Kaveh slips his hand around Alhaitham's waist to keep his balance.
They leave the tavern quietly, walking back home with silence accompanying them. It's Alhaitham who breaks the silence after a few minutes.
"You're still avoiding my question,"
Kaveh raises his eyebrow, "What question?"
"Do I matter in your life?"
The question rolls on Alhaitham's tongue so easily, with no hesitation at all. Not holding back even an inch.
Kaveh clears his throat, "We'll talk once we get home,"
"Or you'll find another excuse to talk about something else and then make me go to bed,"
...
He knows that Alhaitham is a very honest and blunt person, but /ouch/. It feels like a punch on his gut.
Though maybe it feels like that because he knows that Alhaitham's right.
"I promise I won't," Kaveh says.
"Promise?"
"Promise," -
