@ai6yr We keep saying this...if only ONE PERSON in the area had an HF radio that they are able to set up outside their home they would not have had to wait a week.
This is a major reason I put on a monthly field day for people to practice setting their stuff up without wall outlets. Having a license and a station isn't enough; you need to know how to operate without support. It's EASY but takes practice.

Was too tired to post about it last night...we had a great µField Day yesterday. All 5 clubs in the county were represented, as well as visitors from the San Fernando Valley ARC, curious to see what all the buzz is about. 11 HF stations and over 40 people. I got to do some CW SOTA chasing as well, when my radio wasn't being used to let newer hams try HF. The hobby is as healthy as we make it 👌

What a fantastic day! Today was the March µField Day by the BORED Net Group. 14 HF stations set up, with about 40 people attending in the gale-force winds and threat of rain (which never fell).
This is what I love about these things-we had veterans with decades of experience hanging out with people from our current Technician license class, 5 clubs represented, Lots of experimentation, and a lot of just hanging around.

This Sunday is µField Day in Ventura County again, December 17th at 1100-1500 local, at the Ventura County Fire Department's Regional Training Center at Camarillo airport. Some have predicted rain, but it looks like that's a tiny chance at best later in the day. Temps will be mid 70s. If you still haven't attended a µFD and you can get to Camarillo Sunday, do it!

Every µField Day, I start the day worried that I'll be the only one there, and the gig is up. Then 30-50 people show up and I'm blown away.
Today I have no such worries...we're partnered with the Ventura County Amateur Radio Club at their QTH at the Dudley House in Ventura. Starting off with a VE session at 0830, then combining µFD with their annual picnic. We'll end the day with our traditional September Silent Key net and memorial.

Saturday we held our first VE Session at #VCARC Ventura County Amateur Radio Club in many years...10 examinees, 5 new hams (3 of whom passed General as well, and one did the Tech-General-Extra triple!) Also 5 upgrades, and most were able to stay for the joint-effort µField Day with the club and the BORED Net. Awesome day for ham radio. 👍

Just a reminder-The BORED Net is holding another µField Day Saturday at the Dudley House in Ventura, home of the Ventura County Amateur Radio Club. It's the second time we've had a joint event with them, and this one's even better...they're holding a VE session beforehand and all those new hams can get right on the air while upgrading hams can use their new privs just minutes after earning them!

Surprising turnout for µField Day today, 7 stations and 30 people from 5 different clubs. Met a few that will be starting CVARC's Technician License class next week...more hams!
We had one brief heavy shower, but surprisingly pleasant conditions after a wicked storm.

Quick morning walkaround, surprisingly little effects from those winds. Lots of downed trees around, but none on my street. We did end up with 4.25" rain for the day. Hell of a storm.

Exciting times for #TheBOREDNet ahead...I just acquired the domain theborednet.net (no website yet, don't worry if you don't see anything), and I'm working on hosting and a site. We've been relying on Google Docs for our weekly swap net, and it's just become too ungainly.
I'll also be able to post photos and details of future µField Day events as well. I never expected µFD to become what it has, but it has, so let's roll with it :)

The BORED Net is having another µField Day this Saturday. I think all the locals here got the news, but just in case it's at Freedom Park in Camarillo from 1100 to 1500. #portablehamradio isn't just for warm sunny days...we should be ready for anything, and that means practice. (The weather looks like it won't actually be that bad either.)

After cancelling January due to mud, I've got a date and location for another µField Day this month. February 25th from 1100 to 1500 in the lot next to the RC car track at Camarillo Airport. Full announcements will go out in a week an all the local club mail lists.
µFD ("Micro Field Day") is a monthly informal and friendly way to play around with portable ham radio. Open to all hams, from any club or area.
