Just finished the Saturday Night version of my daily net, the BORED Net. I'm usually not the person running this one, so I forget what the vibe is like. Only 8 checkins but the net still lasted an hour. Nice.

The BORED Net's second μExpo is in the books now...holy Moses I'm tired but it was a great day.
I think this concept is ready to happen-hams getting together and just enjoying being hams. No manufacturers, no vendors, no overhead, no debt for the organizers, just hanging out with other hams.
It's fun. 2026 is already being planned...TWICE. Next Septemeber at CSUCI, and possibly a springtime event at Cal Poly SLO. Watch this space.

I *am* interested in joining the group, but that's still sorta cheeky.

I have a 10" box trailer, so I'm going to mount this on the front, with a suite of radios inside...packet TNCs for 220 and 2m, three VHF/UHF voice radios, an HF rig with laptop for Winlink, plus battery and solar panel. I'll use this instead of the ridiculously heavy go-box I use for net controlling events like road races.
I MAY even have it ready to show off by the μExpo on September 13th...link below.

@ai6yr We keep saying this...if only ONE PERSON in the area had an HF radio that they are able to set up outside their home they would not have had to wait a week.
This is a major reason I put on a monthly field day for people to practice setting their stuff up without wall outlets. Having a license and a station isn't enough; you need to know how to operate without support. It's EASY but takes practice.

Was too tired to post about it last night...we had a great µField Day yesterday. All 5 clubs in the county were represented, as well as visitors from the San Fernando Valley ARC, curious to see what all the buzz is about. 11 HF stations and over 40 people. I got to do some CW SOTA chasing as well, when my radio wasn't being used to let newer hams try HF. The hobby is as healthy as we make it 👌

What a fantastic day! Today was the March µField Day by the BORED Net Group. 14 HF stations set up, with about 40 people attending in the gale-force winds and threat of rain (which never fell).
This is what I love about these things-we had veterans with decades of experience hanging out with people from our current Technician license class, 5 clubs represented, Lots of experimentation, and a lot of just hanging around.

Some have predicted rain, but it looks like that's a tiny chance at best later in the day. Temps will be mid 70s. If you still haven't attended a µFD and you can get to Camarillo Sunday, do it!

Saturday we held our first VE Session at #VCARC Ventura County Amateur Radio Club in many years...10 examinees, 5 new hams (3 of whom passed General as well, and one did the Tech-General-Extra triple!) Also 5 upgrades, and most were able to stay for the joint-effort µField Day with the club and the BORED Net. Awesome day for ham radio. 👍

Just a reminder-The BORED Net is holding another µField Day Saturday at the Dudley House in Ventura, home grounds of the Ventura County Amateur Radio Club. It's the second time we've had a joint event with them, and this one's even better...they're holding a VE session beforehand and all those new hams can get right on the air while upgrading hams can use their new privs just minutes after earning them!

Surprising turnout for µField Day today, 7 stations and 30 people from 5 different clubs. Met a few that will be starting CVARC's Technician License class next week...more hams!
We had one brief heavy shower, but surprisingly pleasant conditions after a wicked storm.
Random Metal Objects On The Air...RMOOTA...@ai6yr did it again, using an 80's floor lamp on 6M and 15M.
