  1. Overall took me less than 30 minutes to replace and then another 30 minutes to install the driver and change my automation. Definetely glad I have an option when the other blinds start to fail (that seems to really be a question of when and not if...)
The only downside if you want is that the battery is not removable as it is included in the motor whereas the IKEA one had an external one. You can either additionally install an external battery, use a solar charger or simply plug a long USB cable into the blind whenenver it needs recharging. I'll keep an eye on how long one charge lasts and decide which way I'll go.
Thanks to Jirka in Czechia for helping me out here. The internet can be a great thing! :)

  2. The install simply doing the removal steps in reverse. It should all go together somewhat easily. tape the little zigbee antenna cable so it doesnt get wrapped up in the blind.
I was a bit worried about the yellow color of the replacement parts but you can't really tell (Photos 9,10).

  4. First, removing the motor part from the frame, simply removing 2 screws. (photo 1) Then you can simply split the frame. (photo 2).
Pull off the existing motor from the frame (photo 3). Replace the three parts on the new motor (white) with the 3D printed ones. (photo 4)

  5. I looked around a bit and found this great site: jirkabuilds.dev/blog/05-ikea-f
I decided to go with the replacement option as this seems the most future proof one. I went ahead and ordered a motor here: aliexpress.us/item/32568097993. Cost me 78 bucks, but you can save 20 bucks if you skip the solar panel option. You dont need it, you can always recharge via cable.
The biggest obstacle is the physical installation as the motor doesn't come with mounts that fit the IKEA blinds. But thankfully there is an option there too: printables.com/model/1673256-i.
After having a friend print these parts for me, today was installation time.

  6. DIY Project for the weekend: Replacement of motor for IKEA Fyrtur smart blind.

In our bedroom, we do have 7 IKEA Fyrtur smart blinds. These were great options a few years back, reasonable priced (between 120 and 150 bucks) and were easily integratable into my Hubitat based homeautomation setup (zigbee/zwave).
Unfortunately these blinds seem to develop electronic problems over time. A lot of complains online and it seemingly got so bad that IKEA stopped selling them. So, once you are out of the 2 years warranty window, really no option to get them replaced.
