The man suspected of #shooting 2 #NationalGuard members, Rahmanullah Lakanwal, was once part of a #CIA-backed paramilitary group, one of several so-called #ZeroUnits, according to #Afghan & #US officials.
The units also had a reputation for ruthlessness, with journalists & #HumanRights groups referring to them as “death squads.”
