Prop K passing is the silver lining in an otherwise dreadful sea of election results - both because I think it’s the right decision and because the No on K people were so damned annoying about it. #YesOnK https://sfstandard.com/2024/11/14/great-highway-closure-next-steps/

@SFPublicPress prop K will get cars out of the way of our having a new world-class park.
A very few people (evidently including one of your directors or funders, given this constant drumbeat) having to take a few minutes longer for specific car trips is a small price to pay for a great public space like Crissy Field. #yesOnK

Prop K opponents are always like "nobody goes there in the fog" "there's already open space at the beach" but look here's everybody in the fog on the paved area with an empty beach. different surfaces are good for different occasions! more space for people is good! #YesOnK!!

The SF Estuary Institute just released a comprehensive report evaluating the different options on the table for cars on the the Great Highway, and environmental impact of each. Spoiler, "closing the roadway to cars entirely has the greatest and most immediate ecological benefits".*

yeah, that pretty much reflects my relative level of enthusiasm for voting for those two things

Converting Upper Great Highway into a 24/7 oceanfront park will transform the space into an inclusive, equitable, and sustainable public space for all, especially the next generation.
Fantastic piece by a 16-year-old on why we should vote #YesOnK to create a new oceanfront park: https://www.sfchronicle.com/opinion/openforum/article/prop-k-great-highway-19854604.php?utm_source=marketing&utm_medium=copy-url-link&utm_campaign=article-share&hash=aHR0cHM6Ly93d3cuc2ZjaHJvbmljbGUuY29tL29waW5pb24vb3BlbmZvcnVtL2FydGljbGUvcHJvcC1rLWdyZWF0LWhpZ2h3YXktMTk4NTQ2MDQucGhw&time=MTcyOTc5NzE0Mzk1Ng%3D%3D&rid=ZWJkMTcwYmUtNjUxMy00YzY1LWFlNzAtZTFiMzI1MGU5OGUw&sharecount=Nw%3D%3D

Outstanding analysis and opinion piece by @braitsch on the financial benefits of converting Upper Great Highway into a 24/7 oceanfront park (@GreatHighwayPark / @oceanbeachpark)👏❤️
Converting Upper Great Highway into a 24/7 oceanfront park will benefit all people, businesses and—critically—the environment. #YesOnK

Our analysis looked at city data and eight case studies where waterfront roadways and industrial areas were converted into public parks. In every case, these conversions generated an economic windfall for local businesses.
San Francisco crash & 911 data also suggest that permanently closing the Great Highway to vehicles will reduce the frequency of vehicle crashes and shorten emergency response times across the neighborhood.

This analysis was one of our most extensively researched projects to date and took us over two months to produce.
Please support our work so we can continue bringing you carefully researched data analyses that help us fight for safer streets and on November 5th, please support our local businesses by voting #yesonk!

The San Francisco Estuary Institute: “closing [Upper Great Highway] to cars entirely has the greatest and most immediate ecological benefits […] conversion of the roadway to a promenade presents the greatest opportunity for ecological improvement.”
#YesOnK for @oceanbeachpark/@GreatHighwayPark 👏🗳️
With Prop. K, San Franciscans have a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to convert a redundant roadway—that’s falling into the ocean—into an accessible, equitable, and sustainable oceanfront park.

@DoomsdaysCW that's pretty much what #YesOnK. #OceanBeachPark is trying to achieve in San Francisco.
The Great Highway runs along the Pacific (a sandy beach between road and water), and the southern most stretch is being eaten by the Pacific. That's scheduled to close end of next year or early 26, with bike & pedestrian paths remaining.
I'm among those advocating to close the long center stretch to cars (it is already a city park, it just happens to have 4 lanes of traffic running through it) and move ahead with restoring a more natural dune ecosystem. Details at https://www.oceanbeachpark.org

"Boschetto said Prop. K is pushed by wealthy techies who can work remotely, unlike working-class people who may need to drive to their jobs. Proponents want to push people out of their cars and onto bikes or public transit, modes that don’t work for everyone, Boschetto suggested. "
*Cars* are one of the biggest burdens on the working class!!

“I don’t think the city is treating us properly,” Fong said. “We should be working together, not against one another.”
When a driver says this, what they really mean is “as a driver I should have the city cater to my every whim”. #YesOnK

Today’s a great day to put @oceanbeachpark and @sftransitact signs in your window and tell your family, friends, and neighbors to vote #YesOnK and #YesOnL.
This November, you can help create a new oceanfront park and fund public transportation—join the movement for a better city!

About three months ago, the San Francisco Chronicle published an opinion piece about the vision and potential for a full-time park: https://www.sfchronicle.com/opinion/openforum/article/great-highway-park-san-francisco-19484600.php?utm_source=marketing&utm_medium=copy-url-link&utm_campaign=article-share&hash=aHR0cHM6Ly93d3cuc2ZjaHJvbmljbGUuY29tL29waW5pb24vb3BlbmZvcnVtL2FydGljbGUvZ3JlYXQtaGlnaHdheS1wYXJrLXNhbi1mcmFuY2lzY28tMTk0ODQ2MDAucGhw&time=MTcyNjAwMzIxMTk1MQ%3D%3D&rid=ZWJkMTcwYmUtNjUxMy00YzY1LWFlNzAtZTFiMzI1MGU5OGUw&sharecount=NQ%3D%3D

People For Bikes included Prop K—and @GreatHighwayPark / @oceanbeachpark—in its Vote for Bikes campaign, noting how voting #YesOnK will “protect natural resources, increase access to these resources, and dedicate safe infrastructure for [people biking, walking, and taking transit].”

The Panhandle of Golden Gate Park used to have a roadway and cars driving through.
Thanks to San Franciscans back then, the Panhandle is now a full-time park.
This November, we have a similar opportunity with Upper Great Highway and @GreatHighwayPark/@[email protected].
Let’s create a park! #YesOnK

Imagine there was a park along Ocean Beach and someone proposed destroying it to create a roadway solely to save drivers three minutes.
That’s essentially what Prop K comes down to: Should we use this public space for an inclusive, accessible park or a redundant roadway? #YesOnK @GreatHighwayPark @oceanbeachpark

The San Francisco Chronicle has endorsed Prop K to convert Upper Great Highway into a full-time oceanfront park—Ocean Beach Park—this November 🎉
Now is the time to convert this wasteful roadway into a safe, equitable and sustainable public space for all.
Please vote on #YesOnK
