New article on women in Yarmouk, a neighbourhood in Damascus that, from my understanding, is mostly or entirely Palestinian (the article does not say this though). Re: life under the new transitional government.

"While officials insist women are treated well, activists and residents describe streets patrolled by armed men, fear shaping daily life, and systematic exclusion from power. For Bessan Awad from Yarmouk, these armed men are more than an abstract risk – they are a constant shadow over her daily life. She avoids contact, slips away when confronted, and dreams of a day when the streets are not patrolled by fear.

“The new regime has changed my everyday life,” she says, her voice quiet but steady. “I fear it will only get worse from here.”"

Palestinians returning to #Yarmouk

Built to host Palestinian refugees in 1957, Yarmouk grew into a bustling suburb of some 1.2 million people, including 160,000 people from Palestine.

After Syria’s war broke in 2011, the al-Assad regime bombed the suburb heavily, targeting fighters there. The camp was all but abandoned, and the number of Palestinian refugees in the ares now stands at 8,160, according to the AP.
