Now that all Xenoblades get Switch 2 Editions, it'll be time for me to replay 3, too. I wonder if I'll like it better this time. That game really didn't want me to. I mean just that you load up the big, open field and then have no musical equivalent to Gaur Plain/Gormott? No! Bad #Xenoblade!

Just in case anyone asks me what peak gaming looks like: Xenoblade Chronicles on Switch 2. An already incredible series, now even better. Absolute perfection.

Look, I have had a bug up my nose about Xenoblade 2 since release, but the new merc assault mode for Switch 2 looks kinda fun. I'm not allowed to replay it, but I hope the rest of you have fun.
(Short version: I played it at its buggy worst, pre map fix even, while reading abolitionist literature, terrible combination. Dozens injured as a result, Youngest now has the chip in safekeeping.)

What a total gut-punch that ending was. I was fully prepared to be so incredibly upset, but thru the magic of video games…
What an absolute masterpiece of a game.

The last two areas have me frustrated. Narrow twisty paths that are fairly dense with monsters and have named mobs that aggro from a mile away. Kept dying and getting lost and tried to just sprint thru everything.
Now I find myself stuck at a boss fight that I’m severely underleveled for and need to go back and grind the mobs I sprinted past in the first place.
My own fault, but still frustrating.

Gating progression behind acquired field skills is bullshit and pissed me right off, and not only because I haven’t been paying attention to field skills.
I managed to get past the roadblocks, however, and the story got its hooks back into me. Nia also finally came out of her shell. Or her mustard colored onesie, I suppose.

Well I’ve managed to get out of both Chapter Six and the snow, but beside some of the incredibly corny dialog, I’m not sure it was worth that gut punch the story just delivered. 😅

To this day, I still can't believe how Monolith thought that locking the later added hard mode in Xenoblade 2 behind the Expansion Pass was in any way acceptable.
Even worse when, at least for me, normal mode was too easy and also easier than what the previous Xenoblade games had offered.
Thankfully, they didn't do that again in Xenoblade 3.

I think some of the worst moments in a Xenoblade game is when near the end it now requires something specific (or it makes something useless) during a fight when it was never before.
With the worst case scenario being that you have to stop your progress and grind money/exp which you really don't want to during the final parts.
At least it's rare, only Xenoblade 2 and the new content in Xenoblade X DE have those moments I think.
