  5. #xcat #ubuntu #maas cluster

Just throwing this out here ...

we've been using xcat as our cluster deployment mechanism but it doesn't do ubuntu.

MAAS seems like it might do what we want, but is a bit opaque (to me) especially with respect to image customization.

    Anyone got suggestions on:
    a) xcat replacements that handle ubuntu
    and/or
    b) pointers to how to get MAAS to handle custom images that include things like SLURM and ldap integration?

  10. Beating my head against #xcat all day. Diskful installs with no errors in postscripts, but the nodes never reboot after the initial install. So far Google has been unhelpful. Running 'rpower <nodename> reset' works and they reboot and run postbootscripts. Not using a custom template or anything like that. Hopefully some sleep will trigger the right search terms in my brain.

  15. @DrCuff @jan Not a bad piece of advice. In this case I am intimately familiar with #xcat but trying to get away from the complexity there. In this instance I am leaning heavily towards #openhpc as it's the next on the list for what I am familiar with and seems to be a sweet spot for what we need.

  20. So what is everyone using to manage their clusters today? I have to redeploy an older cluster and am most familiar with #xcat but in the end that seems like using a sledgehammer to hang a picture. I am looking at #openhpc and have used it in the past and it seems like a more lightweight option. I'm looking at ~70 nodes with no GPU (at present).
