  1. [P] Something hit me just now. Earlier I spoke about how supposedly "mature" fantasy fiction is mired in bioessentialism with all the nuance and subtelty of a brick, that "grown-up" fantasy fiction relies on bigotry in lieu of any wisdom. And then it clicked. The sociopathy room-totin' neurotypical conflates bleakness with depth. "It makes me feel better 'coz my life's not so shitty! That's depth!" Um. No. It isn't. But I get it now.

Do particular kinds of animals show up in your writing?

The Desolation series is set on an alien planet and I'm drawing inspiration from Devonian period (with a dash of Silurian and Carboniferous) for the plants and animals. So a lot of giant crustaceans and pre-dinosaur nasties. Fun stuff.

  7. Worked on a new lore article for this month, centered around one of my fantasy species, the nachtgiger. I am really proud of the art and lore of this one.

Feedback is always widely appreciated ;)

  8. Before Viral Was a Thing: Mariachi vs. Migra

There’s a series of stories I’ve been carrying for a while—stories that needed telling. But before I share the rest of my collection, I wanted to start here, with this oneto test the waters and see if my words find a home with you. These stories come from a place of memory, humor, and a little bit of heart—snapshots of moments that shaped me and the world around me.Some are light, some are raw, but all carry the thread of where I come from.It is my hope to one day publish these as a […]

  12. In this episode of my #writng #podcast I share how I got taken advantage of and ripped off by a freelance editor I hired in the hopes you can avoid the same happening to you. I also explain why I would never recommend Reedsy to anyone.

  13. #PennedPossibilities 514 — Has your SC ever felt as though they’ve been reborn?

Since I think of this kind of development as an arc which builds over time, there usually isn’t a moment of realization. The 2 closest I can think of is Kan-chan in my 2nd novel becoming friends with Shiro & realizing she has found a place where she is accepted. The 2nd is when Shiomi realizes her ex. is a ghost out to kill her, not a living person trying to reunite with her.

  14. I love anything I can mix cute with creepy.

Kitsune think it is absolutely hilarious luring humans into a bog.

Don't they know humans are the center of the universe?

  15. #WritersCoffeeClub #Writng 11/24. What's the most challenging part of the writing process for you?

Staying focused. Something is always bright and shiny that draws me away.

  16. #PennedPossibilities #writng 497 — What would your antag’s worst nightmare be?

They are living it. The only thing that would make it worse is losing the person they "love."

    #KonbiniIdol

  17. #wordweavers #writng 8. SC POV: Who knows your deepest secrets?

Shishi: Ume, I've told her everything. And you can read about it in the novel she is writing.

  18. #writerscoffeeclub #writng 4. Do you find your writing skills or writer's instinct useful in other walks of life?

I would express it the other way. Life skills have helped my writing.

  19. #PennedPossibilities #writng 480 — On average, how many times per week do you write?

Every day. I have no idea how many sessions I do a day.

  20. #WritersCoffeeClub #writng 11. Do you have a favourite phrase or word that crops up in most of your work? What is it?

I try not to have favourite phrases or words. If spot I I work at taming it.

Now, my characters often have fav. words of phrases

Tomo's is "Yabai" an all-purpose word that can mean anything you want it too.

  21. #WritersCoffeeClub #writng 9. What motivates you to keep going when sales are low?

I am my number one audience and writing serves the same outlet that daydreaming did when I was a child. I have also always been an avid reader and have read almost everything that is tailored to my taste. (Yuri)

  22. #WritersCoffeeClub #writng 24-10-08. What's your favourite food and drink combo when writing?

Gyrokuo (A high-end Japanese green tea) and...

    I have no idea.

  23. #WordWeavers #writng 2410.07 — How would you define the genre you write for a lay reader?

Yuri is a Japanese genre about the relationship between women, often romantic.

  24. #WritersCoffeeClub #writng 2: Write a traumatic, disturbing scene?

I prefer weird and/or creepy to traumatic. But I do put tags on my work to indicate potential triggers.

I probably do disturbing but not in the traumatic sense.

  25. #wordweavers #writng 24. Any unique/strange/invented instruments in your WIP?

I suspect it means musical, but...
Amprathea is an infinite plane, so there is no planetary geo-magnetic field.

Each large landmass has it's own unique magnetic field that only influences magnets from it's own location. (It's magic!*)

So a compass is kinda useless - hence the Litholabe, a navigator's tool with three or more magnets (from different lands) that lets you triangulate location on voyages and sailing.

  29. To know how my brain works just watch Neil Jordan's 1984 film: The Company of Wolves.

It's like he cut me open and put it all on screen.
The greatest fantasy film ever made IMHO.
