    Ruled a fleet of more than 1,500 ships and 80,000 sailors. In a series of fierce battles Ching Shih took over government ships attempting to destroy her. The Chinese government was forced to resort to fighting with fishing vessels.

  3. #WomenPirates Anne Dieu-le-Veut (late 1600s)
    To avenge her husband Anne challenged the pirate Laurens de Graaf to a duel. Laurens drew his sword. Anne drew her gun. Laurens said he wouldn't fight a woman, but proposed to her on the spot. They married in 1693.

    Whenever her husband, a Vice-Admiral under Queen Elizabeth I, went to sea to fight pirates, Mary engaged in piracy herself using the staff of her castle as crew. Unfortunately she captured a merchant ship owned by a friend of the Queen.
