  10. #wkcr is reporting that they have been locked out of their station. They are playing a prerecorded message relayed in by a remote computer.

They are supposed to be covering the arraignment of arrested #ColumbiaUniversity protestors this morning but have no access to their equipment or station.

They are generously referring to this lockout as a mistake by #columbia and not an attempt to shut down their #journalism coverage.

Need to keep an ear on them today.

    UPDATE:: see post below

  11. #wkcr is reporting a big protest just outside #columbia campus at 116/Amsterdam protesting the continued #nypd presence on campus

    “We want justice
    … do you know how…
Get those cops off campus now

    We want justice

    do you know how…

    Unsuspend our students now”

#columbiauniversity president shafik wants cops to maintain their takeover through May 17. #nyc

FYI nypd spend $2.2 billion on overtime in 2022. Mayor Adams took our Sunday library services away to save $60 million.

  12. The Guardian reports on #WKCR 89.9 FM, student radio at Columbia University

    theguardian.com/us-news/2024/a

"The unpolished dispatch – with audio gaps as reporters’ phone connections failed and the hosts trying to stay abreast of all the moving parts – conveyed the atmosphere of upheaval on campus."

"Perhaps unsurprisingly, with Columbia’s campus sealed off to reporters and much mainstream coverage centered on the institutional response, the university’s student media has come into its own."

  13. I want to say a heart felt thank you to the amazing student journalists at #WKCR. What they accomplished tonight and how they supported each other is an inspiration. They are what is going to help me get up in the morning.

  14. Mother Jones interview with Ted Schmiedeler, station manager, and Georgia Dillane, program director at Columbia University's #WKCR 89.9 FM

    motherjones.com/media/2024/04/

"[WKCR] has suspended its usual programming and doggedly covered the demonstrations on campus. And, after the administration called in police to break up the protesters, it has become an increasingly essential source of information on the protests for those outside Columbia, as the demonstrations gain prominence across the country."

  15. Listening to #WKCR 89.9 FM Columbia University

    also

    cc-seas.columbia.edu/wkcr/

"Our website is experiencing intermittent outages due to an excess of connections (over 13k). The best way to listen to WKCR is by tuning in on FM radio at 89.9 if you're in the New York Metro area."

  16. If you're having a hard time streaming WKCR (Columbia University radio) via their website, you can try listening via:

    - instagram.com/wkcr/

    or

Their website seems to be a bit overwhelmed, which is why it sounds so choppy.

Regarding her political views, #AynRand called herself a “radical for #capitalism,” and she repudiated any form of #conservatism.

In this 1964 radio interview clip, she explains the differences: youtube.com/watch?v=qaQuBwETiG
