While up in Whitehorse, I came across this abandoned structure on the top of the Whitehorse escarpment, overlooking the city below, not far from the airport. It has a rich patina of graffiti now, and is being used as a shelter, but I’m curious as to what it was originally used for.

The most common theory seems to be that it was an old crematorium, but I’ve seen others claim online that this is false, and that it was used to burn documents by the military.

@jimfl You can also do a loop: Drive to Skagway, Ferry to Haines, Drive (back towards Skagway), or in opposite direction. Best to make ferry rez.

If you have time, I recommend visiting Hyder/Stewart in the Misty Fjord National Monument off of Cassiar Hwy. Pretty cool place.

Bis Pferde Menschen auf dem Rücken dulden, dauert es meist eine Zeit, da es ihnen zuwiderläuft und Pferde Gewicht auf dem Rücken in erster Linie als Angriff wahrnehmen, dem es zu entkommen gilt. Die Wirbelsäule des Pferdes muss das gesamte Gewicht eines Menschen aushalten. Bei Akrobatikshows auf Pferden wirken starke Kräfte, die deren Rücken weiter unnötig belasten.

In Freiheit leben Pferde in großen sozialen Verbänden, sogenannten Herden, und zeigen eine Vielzahl komplexer sozialer Interaktionen.

Pferde verfügen über einen relativ ineffizienten Magen-Darm-Trakt, sodass sie einen großen Teil ihrer Zeit mit der Nahrungsaufnahme verbringen und damit in ihrer Umgebung umherzuwandern. Pferde sind Fluchttiere, was bedeutet, dass Pferde, sobald sie Gefahr wahrnehmen, in der Regel weglaufen. Außerdem haben Pferde einen äußerst empfindlichen Gehörsinn, der es ihnen erlaubt, mögliche Bedrohungen schon früh wahrzunehmen.

Pferde, die in Gefangenschaft aufwachsen, können ihren Gewohnheiten nicht nachgehen.
