BATON ROUGE, La. (AP) — "Louisiana’s #GOP-dominated legislature passed tax cuts on personal and corporate income on Friday in exchange for a statewide sales tax increase, giving Gov. Jeff Landry much of what he wanted after his original tax reform package faced mounting resistance from lawmakers and lobbyists."The final passage of the tax measures wrapped up a special legislative session launched Nov. 6 by the governor and his allies. They said their purpose was to make the state’s tax code more business friendly, create jobs and reverse trends of outward migration from the state. It was the third special legislative session called by Landry, a Republican, since he assumed office in January.
"Critics warned the tax reforms would primarily benefit corporate #shareholders and #wealthy taxpayers while the sales tax increase would exacerbate Louisiana’s regressive tax system where #poorer households pay a higher percentage of their income on taxes."

First, a note: too many people writing about the House committee's release of emails yesterday are calling them "the #Epstein files". They aren't! This is just a bunch of emails the committee got access to. The actual Epstein files are much larger, and much worse, for this administration, for the #pedophile-in-chief, for the #wealthy elite that coddled and supported Epstein, and for Republicans in general.
But the main thing that stands out to me so far is the sheer #incompetence of the #GOP about the release. They have known this was coming, for months. They either did, or should have, obtained the services of the best #crisis #communications consultants in the country to try to minimize the #fallout from this.
And yet the timeline goes like this:
1. The Democratic-party minority members of the committee released three (3!) emails. These may show legal #jeopardy for Trump, but they're not terribly #salacious.
2. The #Republican-party majority members of the committee quickly released the whole 20,000+ emails. Presumably they were trying to "flood the zone" and dilute the attention to those 3 #emails.
3. #Journalists and citizens perusing this huge document dump are now finding things with #optics that are FAR, FAR worse for #Trump & Co. than anything the Democrats released.This is an absolute unforced error, the #Republicans stepping on their dicks. #Incompetents.

There was a shift from an agrarian economy to an industrial economy and many Americans began to move to urban areas. #MarkTwain called this period the Gilded Age and criticized the era as a time of #greed and #PoliticalCorruption.
Industrialization greatly increased the need for workers in the nation’s factories. The availability of factory jobs that required little or no skills was one of the reasons for a dramatic increase in immigration to the United States. Although working conditions in most factories were poor and unsafe, there was a steady stream of immigrant workers to fill the positions.
While there were millions of factory workers, the #wealthy #entrepreneurs who owned the factories represented a tiny fraction of Americans. The few wealthy controlled most of the wealth in the United States during this time.
During the Gilded Age, the economic disparities between the workers and big business owners grew exponentially. Workers continued to endure low wages and dangerous working conditions in order to make a living. #BigBusiness owners, however, enjoyed #lavish lifestyles.
he industrialization of the United States brought economic growth to the country like never before. The economy moved from agrarian to industrial; consumer goods were mass-produced and readily available. However, manufacturing was not the only industry that experienced growth. The railroad industry grew as the need to transport people and goods increased.
The rapid growth of the manufacturing industry created a great need for unskilled workers. This demand caused migration as farm workers moved from rural areas of the United States to find jobs in America’s rapidly growing cities. The increase in jobs was also a draw for people in foreign countries. Many people immigrated to the United States in search of work and the opportunity to live the American dream.
While industrialization led to an increase in jobs, it also led to poor working conditions for this new industrial labor force. Workers were forced to work in dangerous conditions surrounded by heavy machinery. Unskilled laborers required little training and completed routine tasks. They also worked long hours and were paid low wages.
Big business owners benefitted tremendously from the economic changes in the United States. Some historians have said that these entrepreneurs were robber barons because they got rich through ruthless means. Others have called them captains of industry because they were greatly responsible for increasing productivity, expanding markets, providing jobs, and increasing the nation’s wealth."
