On June 29, 1888, Léon Sichel's storefront at Rue Léopold-Robert 42 in La Chaux-de-Fonds abruptly closed its doors. Creditors and suppliers would not be paid: The firm was over 1.5 million francs in debt! Panic struck: Sichel represented (and was in debt to) most of the #watchmakers there!

By the turn of the 20th century there were dozens of ebauche makers in Switzerland, and many #watchmakers produced their own ebauches in-house. The independent factories were consolidated under the firm #EbauchesSA starting in 1926, which evolved into today’s #ETA within the #SwatchGroup.

#introduction I am known in #horology circles as “the one who knows all about obscure historic #watchmakers” and this is indeed my focus. I write my own site, https://Grail-Watch.com, as well as https://Watch-Wiki.net, and for Europa Star. I am also the host of The #Watch Files podcast and am hard at work on a new season.
