I was looking at #Vultr because they have a DC in Honolulu (where I live). They seem to be going hard for machines with GPU for AI hosting but the regular stuff is as affordable as #DigitalOcean. I didn’t migrate yet because I’m still looking at their S3 and if they do CDN. It’s why I’m still stuck with DigitalOcean. AWS or Google Cloud are always an alternative of course… but I don’t need work flashbacks.

Tracking BigBear 2.0 Evilginx2 Phishing Campaign

In June 2026, researchers uncovered BigBear 2.0, a rebranded Evilginx2-based phishing-as-a-service framework targeting Microsoft 365 credentials globally. The operation, managed by operator 'General Boss', deployed 42 VPS nodes primarily hosted on Vultr infrastructure, utilizing the 'offy' phishlet configuration. The platform employed adversary-in-the-middle techniques with geo-matched residential proxy pools across 69 countries, real-time Telegram exfiltration, and automated cookie replay to bypass MFA. The campaign exfiltrated 5,137 credential records including 474 complete MFA-bypassed authentications, 1,032 plaintext passwords, and 4,148 session cookies, affecting 3,331 unique victim IPs across 40+ countries. The multi-user PhaaS panel was leased to at least five identified affiliate operators. Custom JavaScript injections disabled FIDO2/WebAuthn MFA while residential proxies bypassed anti-bot detection, enabling persistent access to compromised Microsoft 365 environments.

És ha már a #Yettel routerének faszsága miatt úgyis egy #Vultr által hostolt #VPS-en keresztül megy ki minden szolgáltatásom, mint például ez a #Mastodon #szerver is...

Akkor már a #Brevo #SMTP-t lecseréltem inkább saját SMTP szerverre, természetesen #Docker alapon azt is.

Szerencsére nálam a Vultr már engedi a #mail forgalmat, úgyhogy jól is jött.

Egyedül a #domain volt kicsit necces, mert az #xyz annyira nem egy szeretett domain, de mivel minden #DNS beállítás megfelelő, így annyira nem para.

Szóval... már ez is saját, ez is #selfhost .

Mennyire örülök annak, hogy rájöttem arra, hogy létezik egy self host #Cloudflare #Tunnel alternatíva a #Pangolin formájában.

A bár, publikus IP-vel rendelkező, mégis ki nem nyitható routerem esetén, meg úgy biztonsági szempontból is sokkal kényelmesebb.

Igaz, ehhez kell bérelnem egy VPS-t a #Vultr szolgáltatónál (nekem ez vált be már sok-sok éve, de gateway átjáróként használható, olcsóbb alternatívát szívesen fogadok), ami évi 60 eurómba kerül, de legalább a szerverem kimegy, a kapcsolatok nem arra érkeznek közvetlenül, hanem a VPS-re. Szóval... Minden oké.

És a #Tailscale #Funnel szolgáltatásával sem kell szórakoznom, ami vagy tűrhető sávszéllel volt, vagy nem, és a hozzá tartozó domaint soha nem tudtam megjegyezni normálisan, annak ellenére, hogy minden szolgáltatásomhoz volt egy #sidecar megoldásként alkalmazott TS konténer is.

De, legalább így ki tud menni a #JellyFin is és a #Nextcloud is a világba, és nem kell félnem attól, hogy a CF előszed a #ToS megsértése miatt.

Crap! My website is offline and #Vultr doesn't provide any tools through the admin console to diagnose. Last I saw, it was fine on memory and CPU. Pings are getting dropped and delayed badly, so I'm suspecting a network issue.

Wish they offered some tools to diagnose and remedy.

Guess I'll go make a cup of coffee and hope it passes in 10 minutes.

There is documentation on how to boot FreeBSD on Hetzner, but it does not look well supported. #Vultr #Freebsd is very well supported.

#vultr 🤷 If you need a outgoing NAT GW (please don't ask) for a VPC, you must set up your own (e.g. linux instance and some twiddling with nftables is needed and if you want to optimize the instance you will also need to do some tuning of kernel parameters). And I'm a pain in the ass for our developers, asking them about HA, firewall rules and stuff 🤣

@bt Try #hetzner. They are cheap in #europe, give 4GB of RAM and support #ipv6. #vultr is also very affordable and reputable, their support is snappy.

I stopped looking for lowend. Savings are not worth the time and hassle.

Are you really accepting venture capital? This will not end well. The piper has to be paid. The venture capitalists will want their pound of flesh. The reason I loved Vutr is because it was privately owned. We saw what happened to #digitalocean When the venture capitalists move in, the customers get screwed.

Trying some cheaper solution by using Vultr Kubernetes Engine (VKE), but it is not good for complex scenario.

1. Vultr block storage does not support ReadWriteMany, so no multi-node solution
2. No cordon/drain process during node deletion

Well, it is cheaper solution anyway. I don't expect too much.
