Our ABC quotes Ms Brady, Telstra CEO saying:
“ "When our network fails, the impact is real. I particularly want to acknowledge the concern caused by impacts to some Triple Zero calls. Triple Zero sits at the heart of public trust in Australia's communication system."Telstra has a critical role in that system and we take that responsibility extremely seriously. No-one should be left wondering whether a call for emergency help will get through."”
And yet that’s how it is now. We’re all wondering now whether our Triple Zero call will get through if & when we’re in an emergency and need to make one.
There’s something about this way of communicating, I can’t put my finger on what it is… it’s as if they’re talking AT us, trying to convince us that what they say is true… when the evidence is that they don’t believe it themselves. A sort of “boys will be boys” approach…
Sure, no one should be left wondering… but networks will be networks… complex networks… & they fall over & calls fail… because that’s how it is…
Apparently nearly half, “45 per cent of calls, data affected at outage peak”. The outage effects lasted several hours, & I’m still hearing from people about bizarre things happening with their phones.
I just don’t feel this is good enough since we’re all so reliant on this network. There must be a better way to do things; maybe we have to step back & do fewer things but do them better; or have less eggs in the basket or more baskets…
