Just a few more days until we are on our #CanadaStrong #vaccation. We will be driving from #Battleford #Saskatchewan to #Jasper #Alberta then we are #VIArail to #PrinceRupert #BritishColumbia with an overnight in #PrinceGeorge #BC. When we return, it is a drive down #IceFieldsParkway to #Banff. We are very excited to see the #mountains and to #RideTheRails.

This is above my head but I hope #VIA wins. All I know is that the track from Ottawa to the main line is stupid slow due to CN not doing maintenance on their track and that needs to be fixed (I'm sure there's other issues).
The only option I see here is VIA building their own track.

Ventilation in Via Rail's new Siemens Charger trainset, though better than before, still leaves room for improvement.
For business class from Ottawa to Toronto, carbon dioxide readings were typically below 700ppm. While from Kingston to Ottawa it hovered around 1200, increasing the chance of contacting airborne viruses. Two readings for economy class were around 1200 as well.
Compare to the #LRC car, which settled on ~2000ppm, even in Business class...

Apparently #VIArail completely screwed up their storm preparation: train stuck for 15 hours, no communication, literally no non-reply tweets for a week.
Watching several elements of the #TTC degrade over the last few years has been frustrating, but I think the ongoing multi-decade multi-faceted destruction of VIA is actually more upsetting. So damaging to sustainability to be making rail worse instead of better, while politicians trumpet the next #HFR study.
