Just got in to Jasper. Pretty close to on-time even!
Had a terrible sleep but pretty much expected that. Looks smokier out than it smells at least.

But a new train sitting on the siding for 4 hours to wait for a freight train when the entire journey is supposed to take 4 hours is the actual problem no one in government wants to solve.VIA Rail remains a national embarrassment because of successive Liberal and Conservative policy. Now they’ll just be a national embarrassment with new rolling stock.
Oh and people can barely afford to take it across the country. It is mostly an embarrassing tourist fraud with spectacular views.

This was to experience modern-day VIA Rail. Last time I took them was in 2016.
And to Ottawa, it was like 2000!

The schedules are horrible. Like, departures at 6:20, 9:00, 11:54. And to return: 14:15, 16:05 and 17:55.
I was look at something like 10-10:30 to go, and 19:30-20:00 to return 😢

The westbound train from Toronto to Vancouver had its runtime lengthened from an 80h55m scheduled journey in 1990, when The Canadian first switched from Canadian Pacific (CP) to CN tracks, to a 94h05m scheduled journey as of 2026.
