Two announcements for upcoming events!

First, I'll be at #Teardown2026 next week. And in a turn of events that still feels bizarre to me now, I will be doing a short talk on making a game for the Apricot. https://www.crowdsupply.com/teardown/portland-2026/short-talk/how-to-make-a-game-for-the-apricot-pc (the Apricot itself will not be making an appearance as I don't know how I would safely transport it such a distance)

Second, I will have a table at #VCFMW in September, where I will again be showing off the Apricot as well as selling Amiga video adapters and converted mice. There will also be cool stickers. I am really hoping I will be able to demo the MFM emulator, too, but we'll see!

@PastaThief I've gone to #VCFMW for a few years. On the whole it tends to be very welcoming, with the caveat that many, if not most of us in the community are in the same asocial boat. Starting a conversation can be difficult, but what brings us all is a passion for this stuff (which can sometimes be a bit overwhelming). There are a few who need to demonstrate geek cred at any opportunity, but most people are happy to find *anyone* else to chat about their hobby with.

@tschak I'm your target (my platforms are TRS-80 CoCo II and DOS) and I've seen #FujiNet at many #VCFMW shows, which I travel to attend. Maybe it would help to know why I haven't adopted it?

First, I didn't know it supposed DOS and CoCo. Actually, I still don't. Neither are listed at https://fujinet.online/purchase/ . The CoCo link at https://fujinet.online/wiki/?p=Toplevel-Hardware is broken. I found https://fujinet.online/tandy-color-computer/ but it requires me to build a bunch of stuff myself, which I don't have time for right now. 1/

I picked up a brown $5 Macintosh IIsi at #VCFMW. It had some battery and capacitor leakage / corrosion. The electronics have been through the citric acid ultrasonic bath, so let's see how things have cleaned up and if we can get it to boot. The VCF free pile was good to me this year. Got a Hayes modem and a little handheld widget for schools that's hackable. And shortly before closing on Sunday I found this Dell E176FPf monitor under a pile of optical drives. It's in rough shape, but I looked it up on https://15khz.wikidot.com/ and it was on the list. I didn't realize at the time that being "on the list" wasn't sufficient - the list includes many monitors because they *don't* support 15kHz. Oh well.

(There was a lot more that happened there - I will have a more proper retrospective on #VCFMW later)

I’ve been going to VCFMW for a long time. I can remember when it was in a small hotel banquet room and maybe a talk or two. This past weekend’s VCFMW was the first time we made a weekend out of it.

The talks were amazing and high-quality. The show floor had so many amazing booths. It was all because many people are generous with their time and knowledge.

I picked up an LCD kit for my clear SE/30 build and a few 68030 accelerators. For some reason every time I’m there I think of a new need for a BlueSCSI.

Spoke with a lot of people and learned new things.

Back to the grind after #vcfmw. I sold out of deluxe boxed editions of Adventure! The Quack of Dawn. Thanks to my supporters and the contributors to the game!

Now to get preordered games prepared to ship.

I had a Totally Normal encounter with @ActionRetro at #VCFMW. And got to meet a bunch of other great folks into retro and vintage computers! Can't wait until next year...

I am slightly annoyed that my next pay day is ONE DAY after VCFMW ends. I had planned on saving a little cash before the con, but various expenses nixed that idea.

I’m sure it will still be enjoyable, but it’s still a bummer. I was hoping to find something of interest to pick up.
