This sort of thing is common earlier in the process, but I don't understand how a candidate's nominating petitions can be invalidated, even temporarily, after ballots have been printed and voting has started. Doesn't Virginia require petition challenges to be resolved long before that, as DC does? In the end Marcia St. John–Cunning got 61%, plus presumably most of the 5% write-ins, but apparently Republicans are still suing to prevent her from taking office.
