A writer has a style, might change by series, or natural progression, or both. That style is heart felt by readers which draws continued interest in a writer's work.

What passes for AI (machine learning, weighted algorithms, enhanced Markov Chains) is a mish-mash. A heartless collection of output based on the amalgamation of stolen knowledge, lacking joy or pain or heart or understanding.

The current "AI" or Super-ELIZAs are junk science. They can amuse as parody which is fine. Their failing is to be assumed intelligent.

Maybe one day proper AI that is capable of independent creative thought may come to pass, but never while Corporate interests exist to pervert it. (See RoboCop for an example).

On Windows and Linux / BSDs desktops+WINE I use TextPad (sort, diff, grep functions); customisable syntax highlighting included with 3rd party contributions. Not an IDE, but its been my GUI text editor of choice since 1996.

On *nix boxes, I like classic vi(1) (Bostic's nvi) (not vim) and ed(1); the shell is your IDE. There are now at least 2 vim classic hard forks that have ripped the AI slop if you still want vim. See also here

@nixCraft So what services and software can be relied on to not use AI? The BSDs, Linux, good ol' HP 15C & 16C, master chefs, classic flip-phones with 4G (where's Nokia 3310 when you need it), home stereos, martial arts, dog cuddles. Things built by thinkers and artists; where simple'n' sturdy has value.

@jonny Sounds like "vibe" coders (maybe analysts) should describe their objectives to the actual software developers who know already how to express a human design as an expression of code. Why bother with #AI? We have a working system.

Canada should NOT prioritise new power sources for power hungry AI. They should direct it to human needs such as heating, AC, EV chargers (and expansion), electric inter-city rail, hospitals, and all our human daily needs. Frankly I'd prefer to see AI die on the vine or at least limit it use.
