The Lough, is dying before our eyes. Decades of mismanagement, political negligence, pollution and commercial extraction of its resources have left Lough Neagh blighted by a pestilence of blue-green algae, choking the life out of the Lough and putting it at risk of total ecosystem collapse.

Following the success of our exhibition ‘Natures Revolt’ which sought to blend art and traditions of resistance, the Save Lough Neagh campaign are organising this follow up event, to bring our community together for a two day festival of eco-socialism, resistance to extraction and exploitation, and artistic expression - to show collectively what Lough Neagh means to us all, and to galvanise the many thousands of people who have been impacted by this crisis. Acting together, we have the power to push for system change, secure a future for Lough Neagh, and demand accountability from those who have plundered it and profiteered from its destruction.

So come down to the festival for some of our film screenings, radical talks and panel discussions, or to hear some great music from local campaigners who have been staunch planet defenders for many years.

"An estimated 90,000 Kenyans were slaughtered in the Kikuyu uprising while just over a thousand were hanged on a portable gibbet. Some 160,000 were detained in internment camps where torture was routine.

"One of Britain’s victims was US President Barack Obama’s paternal grandfather, Hussein Onyango Obama, who was arrested in 1949, and tortured by having pins inserted under his fingernails."

Kitson brought to Belfast his experiences in Kenya, fighting the Kikuyu Land and Freedom Army (exotically dubbed the “Mau Mau” by the British) in the early 1950s where he honed a practice of using “turned” or “converted” rebels into “counter-gangs”.

While #Conchobar mac Nessa feared #CúChulain`s reaction, he would have lost his authority if he had renounced his privilege. To preserve #Emer's virginity, #Conchobar shared the bed with #Cuchulainn's wife on her wedding night, but the #druid #Cathbad slept between them.

#Celtic #LegendaryWednesday: `#Nessa dutifully sat on a flat stone as she was bid by her husband, the #druid Cathbad, and held in all night the child which was ripping her apart to get out. The next morning, she popped out a son she named #Conchobar, after the river he was born beside. Which he fell into as he was born, apparently. Or maybe the power of water birth was well known to our ancient female ancestors. Conchobar went on to be the famous King of #Ulster around whom the tales of the Ulster Cycle revolve.
This was the same Nessa who prior to her pregnancy, single-handedly as a woman raised a war-band of 27 warriors and took off after her father’s murderers with them, intent on revenge and killing.`
