  1. This is a really crucial understanding. I'd quibble to say that Biden really DID try to put out the fire--within the constraints of a legal system that mandated he use only a bucket brigade.

    One of the toughest lessons we need to consider here is that perhaps, as it exists today, the Constitutional order we need to preserve SIMPLY ISN'T CAPABLE OF an adequate response to a threat that was crafted a quarter-millennium later to specifically exploit its vulnerabilities.

    I've been suggesting since at least the latter half of Biden's term that the necessary first step toward democracy's victory is recognizing that we've been resolutely trying to keep playing politics...while its enemies ARE PLAYING A DIFFERENT GAME: WAR.

    #TodaysGOP is a hostile foreign terrorist organization at war with the United States, and needs to be treated as such: those who ACTUALLY MEANT their Oath "to support and defend the Constitution of the United States against ALL enemies" need to do so, dragging those enemies out of their offices to stand trial for their crimes--then anyone who has run for or been appointed to political office as a #Trumpublican needs to be banned from public office for life, and anyone who has BEEN REGISTERED AS a Republican in the last five years needs to have their right to vote suspended for at least a decade.

    One-party rule ON THE LEFT must then be guarded against by making today's corporatist, establishment Democrats one party, progressives another, and maybe allowing others like what Joe Walsh was putting together on the right, and things like PSL on the left, to have a go at it too.

    The fire has simply spread too far, and is moving too fast, to be put out under the rules THAT ENABLED IT TO DO SO IN THE FIRST PLACE.

  6. Or we recognize that WE ARE AT WAR, and the enemy has ALREADY stepped outside the Constitution. The crisis is upon us ANYHOW, and If #TodaysGOP ever got power again, they'd pick right up where they left off at dismantling what remained.

    So we step out TOO, for long enough to:

    1. Declare the #Trumpublican Party a hostile foreign terrorist organization at war with the United States;
    2. Try every member of the administration by military tribunal, for sedition and betrayal of their oath of office (this is where the jail time comes from);
    3. Bar anyone who has been elected or appointed to public office at any level (including State/Local/Tribal) under the Republican banner in the last decade from ever holding elected or appointed office again;
    4. Disenfranchise anyone who has been registered as a Republican in the last 5 years, for 3 presidential election cycles.
    5. Split the Democratic Party into Establishment/Corporatist Dems (in effect, what USED TO BE traditional Republicans) and Progressives--because, as somebody said on PBS a couple years back, "Democracy is a sport that cannot be played if everyone is on the same team," and there ARE legitimate conservative and liberal visions for America. FASCISM JUST AIN'T AMONG THEM.
