While getting home from yesterday's outing I listened to one of the best episodes of one of my most favourite podcasts: Trek Ranks episode 165 "Top 5 Portals portaling" (Sept 1, 2023; no direct link anymore unfortunately, but here's the pods.link). It was a lot of fun and full of deep cuts.
If you are a bit hesitant because it's "Trek Ranks" and "Top 5 [instert topic]", do not worry. This show is not about ranking anything. It's just a mechanism to pick a handful of episodes regarding a certain topic and talk about why they are so great. It's a fun and through and through positive podcast.

CW: I've been listening to a lot of TrekRanks episodes over the weekend. One of them was [Nr 72 - Top 5 Borg episodes](https://www.thetricordertransmissions.com/episode.php?ep=TR072). Sometimes I feel like making my own quick list, like this time. These are my top 5 Borg episodes, off the top of my head. Not all of them are technically Borg episodes. And not all of them are even episodes. But there are no wrong answers on TrekRanks, right? So here they are: (Spoiler for Picard S2)
5. The reveal of Jurati as Borg Queen in "Farewell" (PIC S2 E10)
4. Capt. Shaw's speech and his confrontation with Picard in "No Win Scenario" (PIC S3 E04)
3. The "Destiny" books by David Mack
2. Boimler going through his simulation in "I, Excretus" (LDS S2 E08)
1. "First Contact"
Which episodes would you pick?
And now I'm going to watch the film.
Have a good day/ evening/ night, friends.

If you love Star Trek and need something positive and fun to listen to, let me recommend the wonderful podcast Trek Ranks.
In every episode a number of people come together to pick and rank 5 episodes of Trek each to a specific theme. The ranking is really just "to get the conversation started", as host Jim always says, and not a real, earnest thing. So don't let that hold you back from listening.
It's an absolute Trek love fest every time and never disappoints. It's one of my absolute favourite podcasts ever.
The latest episode is called "Top 5 Crazy F*cking Things Mike McMahan Did to Show Us How Much Lower Decks Loves Star Trek".
Here are 5 things off the top of my head:
☠ Giant Spock's skeleton in S2E2 "Kayshon, His Eyes Open"
🩵 The [SPOILER] in S5E2 "Shades of Green"
🐊 "It's Voyager. Shit got freaky." - basically all of, but specially pointing out all the really weird shit in S3E1 "Twovix"
🎁 The talking Betazoid gift box in S4E3 "The Cradle of Vexilon"
🎞 All of S1E9 "Crisis Point" and S3E8 "Crisis Point 2: Paradoxus"
Which technically makes it 6 picks, but who's counting. And anyway, all of Lower Decks is a giant love letter to Star Trek, isn't it.
Which 5 things whould you pick?
Edit: I realised that I mentioned something that could be considered a spoiler. I'm sorry if you saw this post before the edit and before watching that episode.

CW: TrekRanks "Top 5 Strange New Worlds Season 2 Moments", i.e. spoilers!
I think I've never made a list complete with 5 words and hashtags for a Trek Ranks topic before. Here is one for episode 164: "Top 5 Strange New Worlds Season 2 Moments".
My 5 words and hashtags don't always match the actual element, but they are from the respective episode and highlight elements I like as well.
🍸 Production element:
5 words and a hashtag - It can ruin your life #OrionDelaq
Episode - Those Old Scientists
The LDS style animation of the SNW crew and the SNW title sequence.
📝 Creative person:
5 words and a hashtag - One of my best students #QuiteCreative
Episode - Hegemony
The producers and writers for connecting it all so well from season 1 all the way through season 2. Examples are not only the character arcs, culminating one episode earlier, but also the Gorn design. See Ready Room episode for all the info.
🤝 Dabo round:
5 words and a hashtag - Why don't you join us? #UhuraConnecting
Episode - Lost in Translation
Uhura introducing Kirk to Spock, and the beautiful last scene of the episode with them sitting around the table talking.
👩🏻🚀 Character:
5 words and a hashtag - to let go, be vulnerable #HowWouldThatFeel
Episode - Subspace Rhapsody
La'an Noonien-Singh. Oh man, she's amazing. She's quickly become one of my top faves in all of Trek.
🌭 Episode:
5 words and a hashtag - Never seen a revolving door? #IMFromSpace
Episode - Tomorrow & Tomorrow & Tomorrow
To quote myself: "... absolutely purely because of La‘an and Kirk. La‘an is my girl. I feel her. I liked her thing with Kirk. Also Pelia. So much fun!"

I can not say I'm a big fan of the Xindi arc of season 3 of Enterprise. However, listening to Trek Ranks' episode 157 "Top 5 Xindi War Moments", I am getting a whole new perspective on and appreciation for it and I will look at it differently in my next re-watch for sure.
