  1. This is more than a little unsettling, esp since "levels are especially alarming because children commonly eat fruits like grapes and strawberries, and children are most at risk from the chemicals’ toxic effects,"

But I'm sure the #PartyOfLife wouldn't support policies that hurt children, would they??

  3. "Today's decision proves that collective action works. The 3,100 submissions opposing a 100-fold increase in glyphosate residues represent thousands of New Zealanders who refused to accept a future of higher chemical residues in their food. Farmers, consumers, health advocates, and environmental champions came together and changed the course of food policy in this country."

"Ashley Furniture spokespeople said the company follows all laws and regulations for furniture manufacturing."

This is a reminder that the "laws and regulations" just define the worst you can do without criminal or civil penalties.

The laws and regulations do not mean that it is safe. Just that the company cannot be held accountable for their actions if they follow "all laws and regulations"

#toxics hide behind regulations strongly influenced by industry

  15. Just one more piece of evidence about how trustworthy the industry's claims of safety are:

    theguardian.com/environment/ar

Maybe the precautionary principle is a good idea? If you don't look for toxic consequences, you won't find them. And "complying with all requirements and laws" doesn't mean risks have been adequately assessed.

  21. I continue to be amazed at the advances in toxicology, and all of the unexpected and unintended health and environmental impacts.

And bewildered at the opposition to the #precautionaryprinciple . Although, I guess, we have private profits at risk if we apply that, and, hey, the costs are socialized (one way or another)

  25. @AlisonCreekside You might find this an interesting LISTEN: Dr Bruce Lanphear, an expert on exposure to #toxics, discussing the reasons for his resignation as the co-chair of the Health Canada pesticide advisory committee, and how regulators are failing to protect the Canadian public from agricultural “poisons” ehn.org/pesticide-regulation-2

  27. 👉 We should know Commission’s thinking & how unaccountable RSB could be influencing it.

    We need:
➡️ Robust & ambitious REACH proposal published now
➡️ Full transparency of #BetterRegulation process now, followed by major overhaul of deregulatory thinking behind it
➡️ Lobby firewall to protect decision-making from #Toxics industry
