  1. What about handling of contrast?

The first image is taken with the #Fujifilm 35mm f/1.4, the second with the #Zeiss #Touit 32mm f/1.8.

I think the Zeiss has captured more contrast than the Fujifilm lens.

Both images look perfectly fine to me, though.

  2. As much as I love shallow depth-of-field, some scenes work better at f/4.0. So let's look at that.

The first image is taken with the #Fujifilm 35mm f/1.4, the second with the #Zeiss #Touit 32mm f/1.8.

The extra sharpness and saturation on the Zeiss is easier to see here.

The Fujifilm benefits from in-camera lens correction that the Zeiss doesn't have.

    I think both work well.

  3. Here's another depth-of-field comparison. I also want to talk about detail in these shots.

The first image is taken with the #Fujifilm 35mm f/1.4, the second with the #Zeiss #Touit 32mm f/1.8.

To my eyes, the Zeiss lens has rendered a little more detail in the wood grain.

That's not just down to the DoF difference. The Fujifilm lens is a little soft. Which adds to the charm 🙂

  4. Next - depth-of-field.

The first image is taken with the #Fujifilm 35mm f1.4, the second with the #Zeiss #Touit 32mm f/1.8.

The Fujifilm lens produced a wonderfully dreamy background. That's one of the reasons to buy this lens 🙂

The Zeiss produced a wonderfully textured background.

It's just a matter of personal taste, I think.

  5. Next up - focusing.

The first image is taken with the #Fujifilm 35mm f/1.4, the second with the #Zeiss #Touit 32mm f/1.8.

The Fujifilm lens struggled to focus on this road sign. Although my focus point was dead centre of the image, you can see that it missed.

By comparison, the Zeiss lens nailed it without fuss.

  6. First up - colour.

The first image is taken with the #Fujifilm 35mm f/1.4, the second with the #Zeiss #Touit 32mm f/1.8.

There is *maybe* a small amount of extra saturation in the image on the right.

I can't see any colour difference that would make me prefer one lens over the other.

  7. I went for a walk with both the #Fujifilm 35mm f/1.4 and the #Zeiss #Touit 32mm f/1.8 prime lenses.

Here's a short thread showing my utterly non-scientific comparisons of the two.

  8. @stuherbert Though I've never tested Fuji's 33mm, I once did a little comparison between the #Touit 32mm and Fuji's 35mm F/2:

Back then, I found one of the Touit's biggest strengths its excellent performance at small distances. Details are perfectly crisp even when shot wide open (F/1.8). I still own the lens and usually carry it with me in my camera bag.

  9. I know that everyone who is into the vintage glass look raves about the #Fujifilm 33mm f/1.4 prime - me included.

And for good reason too. That lens is very special indeed.

I'm finding, though, that I'm taking the #Zeiss #Touit out more often than the Fuji 33mm.

I haven't yet figured out why.

And I haven't yet taken both out at once for any sort of head-to-head comparison.

  10. Last year, I played with adapting vintage glass to my #Fujifilm cameras. While I enjoyed the results, I missed the convenience of modern lenses.

The #Zeiss #Touit 32mm is basically vintage glass in a modern lens housing. It has all the optical flaws that give vintage glass their appealing look.

This simple #photo is a great example. Just look at how messy the background is. Such a contrast from modern, clinical, boring lenses 🙂

  11. My only shot at #comet C/2022 E3 #ZTF was not successful: Even though the clouds were finally gone and the Moon was still hiding behind the horizon, the massive light pollution in my area combined with the comet's fainted brightness made it almost impossible to capture it with my amateur equipment.

Even with my fastest lens, a #Zeiss #Touit 32mm F/1.8, I had to crank up ISO to 12.800 for a decent 10 sec. exposure.

  12. I wish I’d learnt sooner that lenses are also important for good colour rendition. There’s a certain something to #Zeiss glass (it’s the coatings). (#Fujifilm X-Pro3, Zeiss #Touit 1.8/32.) #photography

  13. For example, in the below photo both center and corner sharpness of the Zeiss are somewhat better than those of the Fuji, but the difference is barely visible.

Color rendering and contrast on the other hand are very similar. The #Touit doesn't provide a particular “Zeiss look”.

  14. During the past few days, I tested the #Fujinon XF 35mm f/2 WR lens against the #Zeiss #Touit 32mm f/1.8. I provide my results in a short thread.
