  2. @tall_dog TinyNES is amazing 8-bit console I've bought with original chips and two wireless controllers 🤓 It is super important to support #opensource and #openhardware projects from early stage 💰 The console is amazing, yet I didn't have a chance to properly review it due to lack of cartridges in my collection. Now everything's about to change as I've got original Krikzz EverDrive N8 Pro. #tinynes ready with jumper board fitted, some good gaming times await 😊🎮

  3. Anyways, in summary, I really like the tinynes and I plan to use it a lot. It's a great little box and it looks pretty good, but it does still look like composite output. There are limits to how much you can improve the output from the NES PPU without effectively replacing it (which is kinda what the rgb mod does in a way).

    If you don't have a real NES and you think you'd like to have one, and they still have any in stock, I think this is a great way to get one. I'd take one of these over anything analogue is selling any day, but I'm not a "crisp pixels are best" kind of person.

  4. And bonus videos, here's my US frontloader which hasn't even been modded to remove the 10nes chip or add expansion audio! The jitter is, imo, more pronounced but it's not actually that bad.

    (I did have to use electrical contact cleaner on the cart and 72pin connector to get it to boot up though. Remember, friends don't let friends blow on their NES carts. Get ye some deoxit instead)

  5. And last but not least, the TinyNES, which imo looks pretty good for something using chips that are almost as old as I am. There's definitely some jitter and a bit of blur, but it's still quite good.

  6. Next up, the same RGB modded NES outputting over composite. I believe this is still bypassing the PPU's own native composite output, and so it's very very clean for a composite out. This is more realistically a ceiling for what it could look like if everything were perfect (but NES PPUs are not).

  7. First, My RGB modded toploader going through RGB (technically through a component cable, but that's an approximately lossless conversion).

    This is the benchmark: My RGB modded NES isn't perfect, it has a little bit of noise and jitter, but it's pretty dang good. RGB/component video is great, and even the best composite video can't look this good.

  8. Ok so I said I was gonna do some capture comparison of the #TinyNES so here it is :)

    The hardware I'll be using is:

    • My US toploading NES (NES-101) that's been RGB modded, using RGB out and composite.
    • The TinyNES, which only outputs composite.

    All video is captured through a RetroTink 5x upscaled to 1080p, with no other major filtering, into a DataPath Vision E2S capture card by OBS Studio.

    I'm going to put it up as three videos, from the benchmark RGB out to the TinyNES, one per post in this thread.

  9. As an aside, I got my #TinyNES with the Famicom to NES cart adapter they were selling with it and I really dig the way they built this. It's low profile and has a guide rail that keeps you from putting it in backwards.

    It's too bad the guide rail is just sliiightly too high for the FDS RAM adapter, and it'd be nice if it had a pull ribbon so you could use it in a frontloader but otherwise it's about as good as these adapters get!

    I might print myself an adjusted case that works with the RAM adapter. I think the print files for this are available?
