  1. The Wizard's Butler is a fine book, performed well on audio, in case anyone is wondering.

Oddly enough, especially given the title, the real draw of the book is the basic humanity of the characters. Though a little bit of mystery and magic doesn't hurt. Most of his books seem to be varying mixes of those three things, to varying degrees. And at this point I've "read" (listened to) an awful lot of them.

Originally I got drawn in to another of his series, the one that starts with Quarter Share, by someone's observation that it was nice to see a book about spaceships that wasn't about war. And I have found that to be so.

His books, and this is no exception, instead often feature more mundane roles/professions, routinely overlooked in both life and literature, and illustrate that just participating in society in ordinary ways, but with honor and dignity, and also coffee, is the stuff of heroes.

A true message for our day when many chase glamor and power to far more dark and hollow ends. Not to mention good escapism if, like me, you need a place to hide and detox from the day's real world news.

Just finished listening to book 2 and already looking forward to book 3, @nlowell :)
