I'm the only #black person in my office (it's not great, but I'm used to it). Whenever another black person comes in - cleaner, colleague from other office, courier person, whatever - we exchange "the nod".
That nod means:
* Hi
* I see you
* If there's a fire, I'll make sure you get out alive
* If there's a fight, I've got your back
