"All the average human being asks is something he can call a home; a family that is fed and warm; and now and then a little happiness; once in a long while an extravagance."

Spring is in the air.
🌾 Such a beautiful time of year here in the mountains. Especially after all of the rain we had over the winter!
🌿 Everything is green. And all the flowers are coming into bloom.
🥑 It's avocado and citrus season. 2 of my favourites!
😎 Days are getting warmer, nights still cool. Perfect for outdoor activities!

If in the upper financial-resources bracket and valuing more inter-generational
social interactions in your futures then building a 2bdrm granny-flat on some of the backyard and then renting out the house would facilitate.

EDIT: It doesn't have to be a commune.

"Growth regulatory creep" word salad from the "growth mindset"

"A system that dampens growth": "regulatory hairballs"
A "growth mindset means elevating growth and its benefits across all policy decisions".
"The growth of regulatory burden."
"Unconstrained regulation dampens productivity."
"The need to cut red tape to make it faster to approve."
"Employing digital tools to streamline approval processes."
"Deregulation is the answer."

The Good Life Beyond Growth:

"This book argues that a good life beyond growth is not only possible, but highly desirable. Efforts to restore growth politically, however, often lead to reduced levels of social protection, reduced ecological and health standards, unfair tax burdens and rising inequalities. Thus it is time to dissolve the link between economic growth and the good life. The political and social conditions of a good life in societies which no longer rely on economic growth and no longer call for an ever expanding circle of extraction, consumption, pollution, waste, conflict, and psychological burnout."

for someone who thinks anything longer than 10mins on youtube is too long, i started this (by mistake—thought it’s only 10mins)…and finished it. although there’re many points i’m already aware of, it’s the way he puts them together, also in the way he speaks and how he expresses with his face, that makes you listen and want to (re)learn. watch: what 85 years of #research says is the real key to #happiness by #robertwaldinger on #bigthink. #thegoodlife #happy #living #life https://youtu.be/_CxmzkYPvsg

“It did not seem particularly alcoholic. It resembled a sherbet; most of my guests drank the first sample quickly and held out their glasses for a refill. Very soon it became apparent that the potion was singularly strong. The talk loudened. There was a great deal of laughter. Quite clearly the party would not break up at half-past six. Sheila…”

Listening to #ThisAmericanLife and laughing - the act with @birbigs.bsky.social is cracking me up; at this very moment I’m in a rehab hospital recovering from a stroke.

Another on the nosie moment for me. Will have to watch his special #TheGoodLife this week but the hospital cable is pretty basic.

This is not a drill, The Good Life is back on the BBC iPlayer, I repeat, #TheGoodLife is back on the #BBCiPlayer 😍

GOOD NEIGHBORS debuted #OTD in 1975 on BBC (as THE GOOD LIFE).

Richard Briers and Felicity Kendal star as a couple who live a life of self sufficiency in the London suburbs. Paul Eddington and Penelope Keith are their materialistic neighbors.

Brilliantly relatable. #Streaming on Britbox, but most episodes are also on YouTube. 🌻
