  1. #RhodeIsland #HempIndustry faces uncertainty amid federal crackdown on #THC products

"Mike Simpson is one of Rhode Island’s biggest cheerleaders for hemp cultivation and the plant’s derivative products — remedies, he believes, that may help where pharmaceutical medicines cannot.

"It’s that very reason Simpson helped co-found Rhode Island’s only outdoor hemp farm, where he says many of the business’ products ship all across the country.

"But Lovewell Farms’ may cease operations now that Congress has approved reopening the federal government under legislation that would effectively ban hemp products containing more than 0.4 milligrams of THC. If approved by President Donald Trump, the ban will go into effect in a year.

" 'This might be the final straw,' Simpson said in an interview Wednesday. 'I may have to shut my whole company down.'

"Simpson doesn’t sell intoxicating products, but said crops grown at his Hopkinton farm can contain up to 1 milligram of THC in it, as is allowed under existing Rhode Island hemp regulations.

" 'I have 700 to 800 pounds of flower that I grew this year that under that law would not be legal,' he said."

  2. ‘The #HempDoctor’ warns of devastating impact in #NorthCarolina from new #THCBan

    Shaquira Speaks

HUNTERSVILLE, N.C. (QUEEN CITY NEWS) — " 'We have people that range from age four all the way to 95 years old coming in for the products. And they don’t all come in for the products that make them feel euphoric,' says The Hemp Doctor owner Robert Shade.

"He’s been running the Huntersville business since 2018, providing products like gummies, seltzers, and even oils for consumers looking to relax or reduce pain. They contain tiny amounts of THC, the same active chemical in marijuana.

"That will come to an end when the spending resolution to reopen the government becomes law. It contains language that would make all products containing THCA and Delta-8 THC illegal — again.

"That’s 99% of the products in Shade’s stores.

"In October, 39 state attorneys general called on Congress to clarify the definition of hemp — arguing THC products are intoxicating, like marijuana or alcohol.

"The Trump Administration signed the 2018 Farm Bill, legalizing the sale of hemp-derived THC products if they contained less than 0.3% Delta-9 THC by dry weight. A product containing THC in quantities beyond that threshold would be considered marijuana.

" 'It would decimate the industry. You’re talking about the loss of a $70 billion industry, over 300,000 jobs across the country. And it’s a surprise to all of us. I mean, we saw things coming, but we didn’t know it was going to be so detrimental to us,' Shade said.

"The new measure would give businesses one year to close down shop, unless Congress revisits the hemp issue.

" 'We have 365 days to continue the fight, which is really asking every single person out there who uses these products to contact their senators, their state representatives, and tell them to change the amendment. Don’t let this go through,' Shade said.

"Shade urges people to call even when the bill passes, telling them to ask their representatives what they’ll do to make it right."

  3. .@RVLara23 Ugh! I just looked that up. Boo hiss!

A Proposed Federal #THCBan Would ‘Wipe Out’ #Hemp Products That Get People High

The provision, tucked into the spending bill that could end the US government shutdown, would ban intoxicating hemp-derived THC products, including #gummies and drinks.

by Manisha Krishnan, Nov 12, 2025 4:13 PM

    Excerpt:
"The letter said the hemp-derived cannabinoid market “gave us—for the first time in decades—a new crop with real economic opportunity” and that a ban would result in “immediate and catastrophic consequences.”

According to a report from the Cannabis Business Times, sales for hemp-derived cannabinoids exceeded $2.7 billion in 2023.

“This will ultimately devastate the industry and devastate hemp farmers as well,” says attorney and hemp advocate Jonathan Miller, adding that it would “wipe out” 95 percent of hemp ingestibles.

While the provision says it will preserve “non-intoxicating CBD and industrial hemp products,” Miller disputes that, noting that the most popular hemp-derived CBD products still contain more that the proposed limit of 0.4 milligrams of THC per container. CBD products do not get people high, but are popular and used for things like insomnia and anxiety, though research on their efficacy is still limited.

Intoxicating hemp products tend to flourish more in states where cannabis is illegal, says Cat Packer, director of drug markets and legal regulation for the Drug Policy Alliance, which advocates for ending drug prohibition. Florida, for example, has a thriving market for delta-8 products; Governor Ron DeSantis vetoed an attempt to ban sales of delta-8 in 2024.

“There is a reality again that folks want these THC products and whether or not they’re illegal, folks are going to find ways to access them,” Packer says."

  5. As pressure mounts on the governor to veto a THC ban sent to his desk, Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick finds himself in the unfamiliar position of taking flak from conservative activists and media personalities outside the Capitol.
