  1. Bangladesh are collapsing here like Australia does against Bangla ... wait. #AUSvBAN #Cricket #TestCricket

  2. @humanhorseshoes The phrase test cricket, for the highest form of international competition dates back to 1876-7 in Australia when for the first time an 11 v 11 match involving an Australian side (officially an NSW/ Victoria combined 11) and an English touring team (officially James Lillywhite's XI). Several previous tours had taken place but all had consisted entirely of matches played against the odds (home sides having more than 11 players). Somebody used the phrase test match to describe the game and it stuck. Rugby Union stole the term for its own international fixtures, so it is not a purely cricket term. These days there are two other formats of international cricket, One Day Internationals and T20 internationals (20 overs per side), and a myriad of formats at domestic level.

  3. A great win for England, but they had a lot of help from their opponents, who were spineless with the bat, largely ineffectual with the ball and frankly sloppy in the field.

This means that the Australian’s could be playing Test cricket for a third of all the days in the next 12 months. Starting next week.

If all the matches go to 5 days. Which they won’t.

  5. Australia Men are scheduled to play 20 Test matches between now and this time next year. That’s a lot. It’ll be 21 if they qualify for the World Test Championship final scheduled for June 2027.

  6. @_hypocaust Player of the Match is a fine conundrum - I would personally go for Gaud for her bowling but strong cases could also be made for Bhatia and Mandhana.

  7. Tea taken in early, which surprises me. The England openers are now out in the middle. Satghare to open the bowling to Bouchier with Beaumont at the non-strikers end.

  8. Have to agree with the commentators that the ECB have grossly mistimed their announcement re McCullum - they should have held it back until this historic match was done and dusted.

  9. The 'Bazball' coach hasn't outlasted his chosen captain by long. McCullum his been relived of his test duties today.

  10. It is not just the Stokes news, and his own innings, it is England's whole approach here that gives this a feel of a last hurrah at the end of an era in test cricket.

  11. Australia now in complete control against India at the #WomensT20WorldCup
Ireland about to pull off a second successive win over India in their T20I series.
Craziness at Trent Bridge, where having promoted himself to open Stokes seems intent on going beyond even 'Bazball'.

  12. New Zealand now 415 ahead with four second innings wickets standing. They will certainly bat till lunch unless England drill through the last four wickets very quickly. The question will be how they approach things after that interval. I suspect, given that NZ bat quite deep, that Daryl Mitchell will have an eye on three figures.

  13. @ColinTheMathmo Ah I was confused by the "ODI" tag ("why does that chart show each team batting twice?"). I assume you meant #TestCricket ?
