  1. Maybe another two weeks and I can shop here all by myself. For now, I just sit in the car.

Golden Gate is my favorite location. Access is easy if you can do a mild incline. A large part of the clientele has mobility problems anyway, so they're used to it in there. Starbucks nearby. 👍

I've found that all the supermarkets offer big service. They will do what's needed to make your trip a success.

  5. An anecdote to see if this is part of a big pattern driven by capitalist greed.

I eat a lot of #Carman's Classic Fruit and Nut Toasted #Muesli. I'd been buying it from Coles and felt the fruit-and-nut content had diminished a little recently.

Then, a week or so back, I bought a bag from #Supabarn in Lyneham (née IGA) and was surprised how very fruity it was. I bought another bag from them today, and it was the same (quite possibly the same batch).

    This got me wondering.

Given how #Coles and #Woolworths squeeze producers, are there some products for which the producers use the same packaging to produce a good version for general retail and a less good version to sell to the supermarkets so the can retain a margin? If I shop elsewhere, will I find that the fish in tins of tuna (which I only buy for someone else) aren't always now 50% water?

  10. So #NewWorld, first you built a system that is so user-unfriendly and buggy that it is impossible to use long & random passwords.... Then you finally wake up, send password tips to customers and require them to update their PW but you haven't fixed your systems? 🤦‍♂️

Blocking the option to paste a password (from a PW manager) will make the user accounts less secure for sure.

  11. 🚩🚩🚩 Penny is launching an 'autonomous' supermarket in Otopeni, Sector 6 of Bucharest, that uses 'AI' cameras to record what products you pick up or put down from the shelves, and automatically adds them to your 'cart', but you still have to pay at the self-checkout stations.

I'm wondering, will it use the same 'AI' used by Amazon - 'Actually, Indians' to see what products you take out or put on the shelf? They also claim the cameras won't record your face, but that's dubious and raises many red flags.

Why not use pressure plates, as was the concept with the 'Just Walk Out' crap from Amazon?

Why not...simply stop fucking integrating AI into everything, because there will likely be no security or safety mechanisms in place to actually not record your face, and potentially share the data with advertisers?

Why do we have to re-invent everything, all the time?

  12. Dear Friends of a good thing,

How many options do we need? Obviously more than 1,2,3 for democracy. However for OS appearance,
#Free #software? How many is enough? Can we go back to simplified, less is more? I am not a retro nut. I like new 2.

    For example:
    🧮

Practically no one wants to go back to the abacus for calculations, or the slide-rule. So black and white
#appearance is great as an #option. I tried it. Liked it. :blobcatthx:

    Then this
#morning ... Spent 45 minutes trying to get the #colour back. As it was befuddling my pre-breakfast #mind grog.

    It is like an American
#supermarket. Too many notes. Too much #choice. Mostly in every #aisle/shelf. All #junk food #similarities. Use a little #restraint. Not interested in searching help and countless obscure menus just to #revert. I have whinging and grumbling to fume about ... :ablobcatlurk: Yep, we might not even know or use the revert option. :ablobcatbouncefast:

#Voluntary #simplicity. Where is the #option slider? Oh dear, have I given someone another layer of #complexity to add? This is the way ... :ablobcatcoffee:

  13. I went into a local #supermarket and they were testing their #firealarm system.

If I had the time and knowhow, I'd #remix this with something electronic and driving underneath.

The cadence of the voice makes me think of Night Mail by Public Service Broadcasting (youtube.com/watch?v=WFJPYi3JXw).
