Half by Half of 2026

I found myself in front of a blank canvas again. And it’s funny, all things considered. After all, this is how articles get written. There’s a blank canvas, a staring eye, and then… a pair of fingers start gliding on the keyboard. Just like music. One letter at a time.

The problem, however, was that I could not settle on a subject. There’s too much buzz going through my head. From the new story development Paper games (Infold) teased for Love and Deepspace to the books I’ve agreed to read and review, to the Asian dramas I watched and planned to watch, volunteering work I considered throwing myself back into, canceled travel plans, and, naturally, everyday life.

In the end, I settled on an overview. Since, you know, we’re already six months into 2026.

While scrolling through my Goodreads lists, I realize I started the year on the wrong foot. Although my reading goal is manageable, I think I accidentally threw myself into a slump. Progress has been slow although I chose to participate in one reading challenge. Knowing that my friend, Ally from Amprenta Cuvintelor, launched the Fingerprint of Destiny where people are invited to read one book per month based on various themes, I enrolled.

The first book was an absolute mismatch. Whatever compelled me to try New Moon slowed me down terribly. I should’ve chosen better. But! The good part is that unlike previous times when I stuck to a book like glue, this time I shipwrecked it. For my own sanity.

I then finalized A Dark Forgetting (I question my sanity, where’s my tree??), went for A River from the Sky (I need to try this one again at some point, it didn’t quite work at the time), reread The Hen Who Dreamed She Could Fly (what a masterpiece 😭), tripped on a Veil (and fell in love with the softness of the characters and stories—now, they haunt me 😩), followed The Story of Doctor Dolittle (and realized how different this is from that adaptation with Eddie Murphy), and finally, started reading White Nights.

At the same time, I started dipping my toes into the Fallen Blossom by C.J. Hellman, and accepted to give Destined by Starlight by Iris L. Moriya a chance. I’ll share more thoughts on these once I finish reading.

Where I definitely had more luck was the little screen. I began my year watching The Omniscient Reader—I liked Ahn Hyeo Seop’s performance, but I absolutely hated the direction the writers and directors took with this one. And it wasn’t even because of the plot diverging from the original. I can live with that. But the whole thing felt cheap and violent for no good reason. Perhaps my expectations were just too high.

I then proceeded with Sky into Love, which was adorable overall, The Art of Sarah—grim, dark, punchy and truthful. Next up was Yumi’s Cells 3—sweet, adorable, made me wanna bite my pillow in I’ll smack you both if you don’t talk normally, followed closely by Brave Citizen, Pretty Crazy, both of which were on my list for far too long, Filing for Love (look, there comes Shin Hye Sun again), Following (surprise! 🎉), and then, Phantom Lawyer—is there some sort of trend with me??

Now I’m preparing myself for the ordeal called summer. And the new storyline in Love and Deepspace. Valko (Oh In Hyeok) is coming and I’m still unsure if Stylus (Jinwoon) will keep his crown. I mean, sure, I dislike the werewolf design, but without the tail and two sets of ears, Oh In Hyeok looks cool. And I can’t really pass up that Spiderman reference. Or the cool song below.
